hi....can someone tell me the answer to this please.............. if you receive an offline IM from a friend to your email account, is it possible to hit return, write a reply offline and the friend gets your reply? Can you converse this way offline? Does your reply automatically go to their email or back on their missed IM's in-world? Perhaps they can see it straightaway if they're online? I also assume if residents say their IM's are capped, this mean they haven't enabled logged chat to email, so the reply could be lost anyway? Thanks sorry to be confusing............. finn.

If you reply to an email diverted from IM inworld - within four (or is it five) days - then the reply (delete all the text in the email or you will run into a character limit) will turn up in their IM window. Yes, you can reply to an IM received offline through your email, but I think you can only reply once per notification. Yes you can hold a discussion like that (I've done it), although it'll start filling up your email box pretty quick if the person in SL is in a chatty mood. Each individual sentence is treated like an offline and sent by itself. Your reply through email goes wherever they have set.. they'll get it in IM if they're online in SL, if offline they may get it in THEIR email or miss it depending if they have log to email set or not. It's not very practical to initiate an email exchange from inside SL, then continue talking in email because sometimes LL's log misses replies or is sooo slow you could probably walk to the other persons house before the email log reply arrives.

You can actually reply as many times as you like per notification - the id lasts about four days. Pep (who despite suggestions to the contrary, can not walk across the Atlantic . . . )

Another reason to delete their msg to you from your reply: If you don't, you will give them your email address.
Also, if you email signature (supposing you use one) contains your email address, it will give you away.
But if you don't do either of those things, all they will see is a simple IM from you.

The limits wiki page says that you can reply to offline IMs up to 5 days after they were sent but I've heard that limit can be somewhat unreliable. As Pep mentioned, make sure you delete the quoted text in your reply as you're limited to a max length of 1023 characters/message but you can continue as a separate reply if you tend to be verbose. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Limits

I learned something and I didn't need LL's new and (un)improved forum to do it (I'd only suggest attempting to walk across the atlantic if there weren't *any* times your BS does indeed fly.. )

. Rhonda Huntress has her own email address. Used only for this account. If it ever gets compromised it will take about 3 minutes to be up and running with another.
