the idea are endless... crappy processor, crappy vid card, not enough memory, overheating, too much junk auto-loaded up on the system, spyware, adware, viruses, trojans.

have them check out sites that teach you to optimize you computer... Blkviper.com has great information on getting rid of things that don't need to be running on most windows machines, and other sites will help clean up bloat in things like autoloading programs, and memory management.adaware and spybotsearchndestroy will clean out most of the web clutter, defragmenting the hard drive on a regular basis makes files load faster, hardware upgrades will improve overall preformance, etc ad nauseam....

"it crashes" doesn't tell us anything... it's like going to the Dr and saying "a friend of a friend is sick"... they're just gonna tell you that that person should go see a dr.

The mid-range laptop I've been using for SL for the last 10 months now crashes when I try to run the latest viewer on it. The entire computer crashes, not just SL. When it reboots it comes up with a message saying that some program (SL) was telling a (video) driver to do something that was damaging the hardware.

I reverted to Viewer 1.22.11 which works great as always.

I filed a JIRA but I don't think they believe me or something.

My computer is a 2.49Ghz Core2Duo Dell D830 Lattitude with 2GB RAM and Mobile Express 965 video with the current drivers.

When Viewer 1.23 becomes mandatory, I won't be able to use that computer for SL any more.

I fixed it somewhat by using the nicolaz viewer. You have to have SL 1.18 or something like that to use it though.

What are all the specs of the laptop?

Run DXdiag.exe using the Windows RUN function and tells us what it says for CPU, and video card (on the 2nd page). It might help people to help you better.

I've given up on trying to help people with threads like this..........seems they think we are all sitting right there next to them and have complete access to the computer having problems. If they can't take a little time to fill us in on what's happening, including, at least, basic specs then they don't really want help.........they want us to fix it for them

Kind of bazaar if you ask me.
