I am new to SL so I need your help. I needed a little privacy the other day so, I went to World and set my status to "Busy". Now I want to take it off "Busy" mode but don't know how to do this.
When I go to set it to where my friends can see me online it states, in that little box, that I am in "Busy" mode and do not want to be disturbed. It also states that I need to log in in order to change the settings. If I'm online at SL then aren't I logged in already?
I hope someone can help me with this one.
Mary

Click the little blue button at the bottom of your screen that says "Set not busy". You're welcome.

Mary Being logged into the website here at secondlife.com isn't the same as being logged into Second Life itself. When you're logged into Second Life, you're using the viewer and watching your avatar move around. Here, you're just on the website, accessing these Forums and your account information. In order to change your Busy mode, you need to actually be logged into the Viewer (aka the thing where your avatar moves around.) I believe there's an option in the World menu also, to Set Not Busy. (Just FYI, Second Life is commonly called the Viewer, the Client, etc.)

I think the OP's problem is that it still says that while she's logged on in-world, cf. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8541.

I thank all of you for your help but, I still can't fix this problem.
1) I am logged in to Second Life and see my Avatar 2) I don't have a blue button at the bottom of my screen, or any where else, that says "set to not busy" 3) When I go to Edit/Preferences/Communication to change this setting it tells me to log in to change. I already logged in
This is driving me crazy. If I get this fixed I will never change it again that's for sure.
I hope someone can help me figure this thing out.

Is there an option for 'Set Not Busy' in the World menu up top?

That is odd.
Just to make sure, you see (busy) on the right of your name? And if people IM you they get the busy message?
Have you logged off and on again?

No the mini map is not red.
I've been getting IM's so they apparently don't see this message
Yes, I've logged on and off several times
In my profile, where I go to set it to where people can IM me, there is a box below that has the following message "The person you have tried to IM has set their preferences to busy. Your message will be saved for them". This is on my profile and I've not IM'd anyone.
There is no option to set "not busy" on the World menu
This is a free account, could that have something to do with it?

Wait, are you seeing this in Preferences? If you are, that's just the message people *would* see if you set yourself to Busy. Otherwise, the only one who sees it is you.

Your actual profile is seen when you right click on yourself, and get the pie menu (Go..., Groups, Profile, Appearance, etc) or in Edit/Profile under the menus. Your profile should show a spot for a picture, an area for the groups you're in, and a text section called "About," where you type in little blurbs about yourself. I have a feeling that you're looking at what Ann is suggesting... your profile OPTIONS in Edit/Preferences/Communication?

The first picture is of my actual Profile... nothing about "Set Busy" is available. This picture is of the Edit/Preferences/Communication window. The text you see in "Busy Mode Response" is just the text that other users WILL see IF you set to busy.

Now, if you ARE set to busy, you'll see this: on the bottom left of your screen. You'll also see this above your head: When you are set to busy, you will receive a little notice that you have waiting IMs, but all people trying to IM you will receive the "Busy Mode" text. You will also not receive any objects/notecards/etc from anyone, and the giver will see that you've rejected their offer of Inventory.

Thanks everyone. Yes, it's in my profile in edit/preferences/communication. I feel so dumb now.
Don't you just love "newbies"?

Is there a box attached to your head Mary? If not you're less dumb than a lot of us were at this point in our second lives.

And just remember, when you log off then log back in, you have to put busy mode on again. And your friends won't see "Busy" next to your name in their friend lists. The only way they will know is when they try to IM you, they'll get your busy message. Welcome to the forums

...and then there's the case when I have "Busy" set in world - one of my friends decides to call me and ask why I'm not answering her IM's.
