Hi
I'm trying to get my head around the map, but I just don't think I'm seeing what I'm supposed to be seeing. What I want to see is an overview of the mainland and all the islands (still don't quite understand the whole island thing but that's another question)
In World I click map. I've deselected most of the boxes leaving only Person and Popular. In maximum zoom out what I actually see is a big area of blue with a few 'thumbs up' icons denoting popular places scatered around in the top half of he screen and three tiny areas of land, one with three chunks, one with two chunks and one with (sort of) one chunk. Id say 90% of the window is blue ... Obviously he popular places icons are (I presume) located on land but I can't see it.
Any ideas how to get a better overview

Zoom in.
Zoom out only to be able to centre the map window on an area that you want to zoom in on.
Map can handy for finding really interesting places to explore and that are not 'popular'.
'Popular' places tend to be lagged to hell and can be populated by camping avatars whose owners are very far AFK.
Oh!
Look for NCI New Users. (?)
Search this forum too for NCI Maps ..... They might be near equivalent of what you're looking for, although those static maps are not intended to be a guide to 'Popular Places'.
They are about the only good overview of Mainland SL

That's it - that's our SL world - loads of blue with those chunks of land. There are other private islands of varying sizes in the blue area but most of them don't show on the map until you zoom in.
The whole of the land area of SL at the moment is very roughly the same as that of a small county.

From: Idaho Merryman What I want to see is an overview of the mainland and all the islands When you zoom all the way out, you will ONLY see the mainland, and maybe a few Linden-owned islands. Private islands and estates are invisible (well, blue) until you zoom about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way in. |

Continue zooming In-Out at diffrent levels untill eventually teh whole map will rez ..
never have I found a level where all teh individual islands show up but you can get a pretty good eyeball on teh mainland .
It will ( at minimal zoom ) rez in blocks .. just give it a while.
