I noticed in the last few days in my Windows Task Manager that my computer seems to be running secondlife.exe in the background of my computer, as if it did not completely stop the program. Yesterday there were 3 of them in addition to my running another game on the desktop. It was severely lagging my computer as the old X'd out windows were using up my resources.
You can view that screen if you click CONTROL ALT and DELETE. Anybody know if this is my computer causing issues? Just wondering if this is a new problem with SL or if I need to look further into my machine. It is not happening with other programs at this point, that I am aware of.
Thanks.

Just checked mine and it's not running. I have noticed previously though that sometimes in my task bar the second life application still shows after I've quit, clicking on it takes that away.

Once in the last few days I've wasn't able to run SL because another one was running, even though I couldn't get to it via the taskbar or alt-tab. I was able to kill it easily in the taskbar. In this particular case, I had killed a previous version a few minutes earlier, but I don't remember whether it was because of a hang or to switch alts.
If you're running with -multiple, then you wouldn't have the problem of not being able to run it with another running in the background. That could explain how you had several while I discovered the first one immediately.
Since it's only happened to me once, I hadn't reported it. But if it happens again, I will.

I've had this happen to me on several occasions, regardless of running multiple or not. I can't remember the exact circumstances, but it was after having run SL and exited (either through a program crash or a purposeful exit on my part).
I've sat and watched the previous instance sit and slowly consume more memory for a while, then it slowly starts releasing it. In most cases, it finally exited on its own. Not sure what it was doing in the background, but every once in a while I've grown tired of waiting and used Task Manager to kill the process. Doing this, I haven't seen any ill results, regardless of whether I currently have another instance running or not.

To answer the multiple question...
no I did not have -multiple running. I have used -multiple in the past but not since the latest download. If I did have -multiple running, I would have chalked it up to that. Good suggestion. Thanks.

This happens to me occasionally. Since I leave Task Manager running, I just take a look to make sure it has relly shut down. It usually happens after I logout from a laggy area.

I haven't had this problem. Sometimes if I spend hours on SL going to different places, my computer will just spin and spin and spin after I logout. It takes something like 15 minutes for it to stop spinning but everything is ok after that.

Just a guess but I would say that the SL program continues to run in the background for a while as it writes everything in memory to the cache on the hard drive. The more memory you have the longer this will probably take.
However, I have looked into this when it has happened to me and sometimes there is considerable network activity while SL is running in the background. No idea what this might be.
