Is there a way at all to make it so that chat in a group is disabled and only can be used for notices?

Thanks!

Based on what I've observed, you do this by having owners and designated moderators jump in after any chat starts and command "This list is for announcements only! Please do not use it for chat!"

If the chat continues, you need to become more panicked-sounding when you repeat your plea.

At least, that's how I've seen it down.

Right I know that but it seems there would be a way to disable chat in a whole on the channel so that only notices can be used.

Another question

VooDoo ( do people call you VD for short?), Don't you think that "Question" is a pretty unhelpful title for a posting in Resident Answers. I mean, we know it's a question (well probably), what we need to get from the title is a hint about the subject matter. Otherwise, people have to waste time looking at the thread just to see what the question is, and even worse, people like me, who don't have a life, waste even more time posting responses like this.

Only joking VD.......or am I?

I thought kids were banned from the adult world now... Must be the forum is still open.

Anyway back to the question at hand...

Thanks!

Check with the people at Xcite. They did that for their Premier site on Eventide North... The group that you had to belong to, to have access to the site was supposed to be for announcements only, but the chat got so bad that they created a new group without chat.

I agree, VD should have made the Subject title more explicit. Otherwise he is wasting the time of everyone who has to click on this tread and wait for it to download before they realize its not something they have any interest in discussing. It is too bad the "kid" who made the OP can't be more considerate of the rest of the adults who use this forum.

there's another thread now active on another topic just called "quick question." This will get very confusing very fast if it continues.

What struck me is that VooDoo responded with snark and dismissiveness toward somebody making a very valid and helpful point. Several threads around here lately have featured people asking for opinions or advice and then responding with various combinations of anger, disregard or insult toward anyone who did not tell them what they wanted to hear.

I hope it is not the start of a trend.

Thank you for being human and answering the question instead of acting like your some sort of forum god who is insulted by others around you like some of these others. I have been in I.T. since the 80s and to this day am amazed at how some people feel so low of themselves that they need to act like a god on things like this. Sad really.

Watch out being so helpful and answers forum questions without a attitude... You might start a trend ;-)

But again, thanks! Big help.

Sorry, I can't help answer your question VooDoo.

I just wanted to point out that if you hover your mouse over the title of the topic, it gives you a brief summary of what the first line inside says...why can't you just do that on a topic with a vague title to get a little more info? That's what I do...
