I think that must be a typo, or a junk number.

They didn't just turn off the majority of the grid.

Remember, it's just days away from the first price hike for Open spaces. A lot of people tend to wait until the lastttt minute to do things.

Yeah - given that total islands owned at the end of Nov. was 24,563, I seriously doubt that 23,000 of those are gone -- leaving only 1563, plus whatever new regular ones were bought in Dec.

Something is not right with the figures.

If you download and look at the raw data it will show a reduction of -1630

I'd imagine that it's more likely that when they ran their calculation something was borked.

Jack has said in the Office Hours that they were monkeying with the island calculation because, in his words, "the numbers shown are not accurate".

So, likely, someone monkeyed with the calculation and borked it.

It's not hard to verify the fact that that number is junk, which is kind of a testament to shoddy reporting practices.

/me takes Massively's SL reporting with a large pillar of salt from now on.

Might even file a complaint with Massively over that one; someone needs to check her source information a little better than that.
