Whenever I put my email address in the "Abuse Email Address" field of the Estate tab of the region tools and click Apply the field goes blank. Is it supposed to do that, or is something going wrong? I am the true, paying owner of the estates in question.
Also, if I enable this feature, does Linden Lab still receive the abuse reports filed on my island or am I the sole recipient? (Not sure I want the latter.)

I've been wondering the same thing, but haven't gotten around to filing a ticket or contacting the live help.

Heck the latter sounds good you can be a dictator hehe.
I wonder if this has anything to do with that estate level governance idea.
Eventually LL wont be big enough to handle the ARs for the whole grid ..
Heck they probably aren't big enough now.

Bah, if you really want to settle a score with a griefer, forget the Lindens or the estate managers. Simply get an estate resident to shout out "Grieeeeefeeeeeeerrrrr!" on the group channel of whatever estate you are in, followed by the slurl... Ever seen what happens when 40-50 people loaded for elephant show up? grin

I wonder if this has anything to do with that estate level governance idea. It does, actually, but... doesn't appear to be well documented or understood.

The 1.19.1 release notes only had: From: someone * Estate owners and managers now have the ability (under World > Region/Estate) to enter an email address where abuse reports will be sent. * If this address is empty, abuse reports will go to Linden Lab as usual. If the address is present, the abuse reports will be sent there instead. In both cases, all abuse reports are logged by Linden Lab.
I really would be nice if they filled in some blanks here. Does LL routinely review these logs? Do they count on residents' rap sheets?

Also, if I enable this feature, does Linden Lab still receive the abuse reports filed on my island or am I the sole recipient? (Not sure I want the latter.) Create an anoymous alt using a freebie email. Log it in from an IP not linkable to your main accounts. Have it do something really griefy on your sim AR it and have a few others AR it. If you get the reports, then 'you get the reports' If the alt gets a spanking/ban, then LL got blind copies of the reports and acted on them. If nothing happens to the alt, then either LL didn't get the reports, or they got them but did not act on them. They just "logged" them. It's interesting. If PIs are self-governed, how would owners alert LL to the activities of a serious island-hopping griefer ?

I asked this question ages ago at a governance team meeting and was told they go to both. I've left the field blank anyway. People IM me or send a notecard when they're getting hassle anyway.

The ARs go to Linden Lab, and the email address in that field gets a CC of the report. I can't comment on the field going blank when you fill it in, that might be a bug or 'feature' of the viewer, but I put my email address in there when the function first came available. I did go to the governance meetings for a while, and specifically asked them about this. They were very clear that you get a CC of the report, but they do always receive it themselves, and they do act on it, or at least, it doesn't get ignored because the estate owner was copied. In other words, they don't dismiss it assuming that the estate owner will solve the problem.
I like it because it just 'keeps me in the loop' for any problems going on with my estate.

Good information, folks, thank you. I'm going to contact Concierge to inquire about the seemingly buggy field in the Estate tab.

Don't use that feature! It abuses your email address. You put it in there and all of a sudden you're getting spam for generic superviagra and night schools, plus, your email inbox has strange bruises all over it and it whimpers a lot.
Abuse Email Address was just a bad idea.

Abuse Email Address was just a bad idea. I was going to post a similar response to this, and add that if you give out your email address, its possible a trojan can be sent to your email. I have left the space blank intentionally. As Ciaran said as well, people will let you know right away, I do not see the email option being used all that often.

As I said above, I've had my email address in there since the feature first came available and I have not noticed any spam or problems with that email account. The emails that I've received from ARs are plain text only, and actually are very terse, as if they are meant to be parsed by software (which makes sense, really). Oh and the email comes with the name of the reporter in the 'from' field. There's just a SLURL of the report location, the name of the accused, the type of report, then the subject and the text. -Atashi
