You can drop in a little script. The example in the SL wiki is all you would need.

Ok, step by step:

right-click and pick edit on the object. If you only get a tiny window, press the More>> button to reveal the tabs.

Click on the content tab and press the New Script... button. You'll see "Hello, Avatar!" appear in chat, and "New Script" will appear under that contents tab.

Double-click New Script's icon, select all the text there, and delete it. Paste in the sample script from that wiki page. Press the Save button, after several seconds if should say "compile successful" and then "Save complete."

You can now close that script window, and also that edit window. Now when you click on the object, you should get a blue dialog box with the description text and URL you added to the sample script.

Welcome to the forums. It took a while to figure out what may have been the problem here, but I'm guessing that you may have tried to *use* the URL that Viktoria supplied, instead of going there to look at the example inside. (Links here in the forums are seriously b0rked at the moment so you actually have to snag the text between "" and "" and paste it in the address bar of a browser tab to actually visit the link.)

The example on that linked page, cut and pasted, is the script you need. You can create a new script in the Contents of the object you want scripted, and just paste that script inside. (If you don't see a "Contents" tab in the window when you Edit an object, you'll see a "More" button that needs to be pressed.) When you "Save" the script, it will compile; if it's inside an object, it will become active right away.

In this script, there's a "touch_start" handler, which means that it wants to respond to being touched, and what it does when touched is just to pop up that blue box in the upper right corner for visiting the URL--in the example, http://www.secondlife.com.

If you did all that and nothing happens when you touch... check to make sure the "Running" checkbox at the bottom of the script editor is checked. (An error in the script can uncheck that for you.) And make sure you're not on no-script land.
