I have an extra plot of land, commercial, since Im too busy building the other two plots, I decided to throw out some 1L and freebie boxes to help Noobs with that horrid Mullet problem.

WHat is the correct way of obtaining these boxes without being accused of all kinds of wrong doing?

If its free content to start with leave it that way

Make sure what you are giving away and/or selling is also not stolen. I found the motherload of stolen textures the other night. The person selling them was a friend and totally unaware of it mainly due to not spending time going through the stuff and not having enough time around in shops that sell this kind of stuff. So to be safe dont give away or sell skins or textures. The ones I have found in the last week are all stolen content. In the case of my friend she has given the boxes of stolen stuff to the person they were stolen from and let them know where she got them as it was a mistake on her part.

There is no hard and fast rule except read a lot and keep up with what is okay and not okay. IN other words stay informed on the latest rip offs and check the creator info on every single item by inspecting it.

And whatever you do, don't sell boxes of freebies for L$10 or L$1. A friend of mine did this, reasoning that "well I organized them, so at least I should get something out of it" and we all yelled at him for days. He also did this with free poseballs, and the creator heard about it and reprimanded my friend, saying "I meant for these to be free. I don't care how you organize them, but don't charge for them." Free is free is free.

Oh Yeah i would never resell freebies, i hate it when ppl do that. Grr..
It was more of the "stolen/ riped off" freebies I was worried about.
Like the texture issue. Mentioned above. There are some good ppl out there who state "go ahead redistribute" i will Im before i use anything. I do wonder how many ppl out there just want to Claim Everything as theres.
I had a person try to Claim that I had stolen an object from them,( said object was created by a friend of mine) In edit it said Creator so and so...but upon inspection you could obviously see that they had simply added 1 prim and called it there own.

Sooo long winded srry, instead of having to inspect everything, Is there a safe place i can obtain some freebies, without tons of drama =) Thx much for the feedback =)

actually the way to find the original creator of many objects is to use the inspect button if there is a shread of the original object left the name will show up.

Here is an example of a stolen item which was easily removed from the market. A bunch of textures were stolen from a creator he uploaded to his hard drive and re downloaded so it would have his nameon it, but in his profile he boast about steeling it.

Stolen skins that I saw recently there was a thread on this forum about them a few months back in this case the stolen skins were ripped using glink or whatever they call it, but in comparing them side by side it was quite obvious.

Then there are the truly stupid theives. They buy from say Textures R Us and most who have used textures from their creators know that the textures start with TRU - in front or tru -, but only someone who has been hanging around SL for awhile and is well err seasoned and builds would know this. HOwever the names of the creators are still visible in the edit screen.

Hair is another one in some cases people have managed to rip off hair (dont ask me how but..) they simply change the root prim and it then says that hair is made by them, but if you use the inspect option on the radial menu you will see that all the other prims are made by some other guy.

The safest and best way is to create your own freebies. True freebies were intended to help newbies and/or promote someone's business, not to be used as a way for other people to get attraction to their land...
