So I finally got my new lappy and it so totatly rox btw - - I dl'ed Emerald but cannot get the Voice thing to wok. I dl'ed the latest Optimized client- didn't they make it so that you no longer had to DL two separate things or have SL Client installed? I am confused and the folks at their forums are nt answering my question. TIA

Both versions have the voice stuff now, the optimized version is for faster/newer computers if I understand it right.
What exactly is not working? Can you enable it at all? Is it enabled and your mic doesn't work? Any error messages? _____________________

I have the xact opposite problem, I have to manually DISable voice every time i login with emerald, the setting simply doesn't "stick".

If you are just cruising around with your favorite demon and want to talk to him, as opposed to doing open voice chat, here's how I do it:
1. Download Skype 2. Make a test call 3. Make favorite demon a Skype friend 4. Read threads about SL Voice with sympathy This is great in that Skype always stays up, no matter how badly SL crashes, or if you want to change to an alt.  |

The mic works fine- I tested it on YM. In SL the button for talk is greyed out even in my own home and cannot set thru preference either. It doesnt show the mic the lappy has as available, only the word Default. I chose that since it is the only one but it remained greyed out.
As for favorite Deamon - that wd certainly work - I just wd like to be able to within SL itself for folks I don't know should the need arise. I will try and contact the inworld group too- Thanks all _____________________

What is really funny is that SL is the easiest way to voice chat. There are a myriad of version problems, setting up, et cetera with the IM programs out there.

It doesnt show the mic the lappy has as available, only the word Default. (Personally, I've found SL Voice to be the most fussy voice client I've ever used, the volume settings are unfathomably low, and voice quality is uneven. However, you're right Amar, it's good to have it at least available for when others are using it.) . |

If you're running vista, you should always get a permissions window the fire time you run any sl client asking permission to run slvoice.exe. If you didn't or can't remember, just go into your windows firewall settings, delete all instances of slvoice.exe and rerun your client. If that didn't do it, uninstall the client, double check and make sure slvoice.exe is again out of the firewall permissions then reinstall. You should now get a permissions window to allow voice to run.
I've had to do this a few times on my wifes laptop when she upgrades to new versions of whatever client she's using this month. |
