New change to friends list?

I just noticed for the first time a change on my friends list. I don't know if it is a "glitch" again for an actual change. I have a fairly long list of people on my list and my partners name is near the bottom since his name begins with the letter T. At this time, he is NOT online yet my friends list shows him on and at the TOP of my list . Now I realize we can change how people are listed yet the rest of my friends are still in alphabetical order. Also, instead of the normal head looking icon next to his name , there is a square. Anyone else seen this or know what it is?

There used to be a bug that sometimes when someone logged out they didnt quite fully log out. So they showed as online to their friends and sometimes had trouble getting logged back in. Send your friend an IM it should knock his AV properly offline on your list and as far as the servers are concerned. Maybe save him some login issues as well.

I remember that bug well and I tried that first thing and no change. I am quite baffled, especially with the change of the icon..no idea what is going on.
