I'm sure this has been asked.....but with the ever changing demands that SL puts on computers....I figured I'd ask again. It looks like my brother's interest is peeked again, after reading some great news pieces on SL and the music scene......but, he needs a new laptop. His will run SL, just barely, so he needs something that he'll be able to get optimum performance out of since he'd ultimately want to be doing live music gigs. He asked me what he should get......I have no clue. I use a Dell desktop that runs like a dream....but I'm pretty much green when it comes to laptops. He's also probably going to be looking at best bang for his buck cause I know they're budget is tight....as everyone's is these days.

These laptops all have high powered nVidia graphics cards in them. http://www.powernotebooks.com/category.php?catId=179Most of them might be out of your budget, but the one for 777 USD with a 9600 and 4 GB ram in would still be good for SL.

I really love my ASUS laptop, which you can read about in the link Jesse provided. However, a friend recently turned me on to Malibal, which seems to be an even better way to go. Their prices are insanely low for what they offer (I have no idea how they can make a profit), and their components and workmanship are very impressive. If I were in need of a laptop right now, Malibal would likely be my pick. http://malibal.com/

From: K3n Oh At one time the Quadro's had a problem running SL... has this been fixed? But it's SHINY! No, I'm not seriously suggesting a six grand laptop for SL. I just ran across it and thought it nicely over-the-top.

I've been quite happy with the HP Pavilion I got last year. It's not top-of-the-line by any means, but it handles SL quite competently (anything that can render SL averaging 30+ FPS can't be all that bad in my book). Mine has a rather modest Intel T5550 dual-core running at 1.83GHz, but there are more powerful ones available. Mine also has an nVidia 8600M-GS GPU with 512MB video memory, 4GB total system memory, two hard drive bays, and built-in 802.11a/g/n wireless.
