Is there a way that you can have your IM messages saved to your hard drive? I thought I had this set up but the only IM that I get is when someone IM's me and I am not online.

Thanks

Click on Preferences, Communication, and then check Log Instant Messages. And to access them, search for the file C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\SecondLife . They will all be filed there, by name.

...and if you log local chat as well, that file will be in the same directory, with the name chat.txt.

After a year and a half of chatter, mine's getting awfully big. Not in kilobytes, but unwieldy to scroll through. I may chop off a big chunk and save it as its own file.

Yes, I chopped up my chat file into...2-3 month increments.

Every month or two I go thru my files and save off the ones that are getting large. I basically just rename the current one putting the date range on it that it spans. The next log in creates the original file all over again, starting fresh.

Every couple of weeks I look at mine , put aside any that I want to keep, there usually aren't many, put them in a seperate folder and delete the rest.
