That is correct joesph
It is defined as avatars that can see into your sim (so I think they have to be within a certain distance from the border) although I could be wrong _____________________

Okay this leads to another question. Do these child agents affect the lag on a parcel along a sim border?

It is defined as avatars that can see into your sim (so I think they have to be within a certain distance from the border) It's likely to be "agents (aka avatars) that aren't on the sim but for which the sim is actively maintaining an interest list". If you're in the middle of a sim with a draw distance of 256m you're potentially a child agent of the 8 sims that surround the one you're in. Depending on what's happening in the sim and how many there are the impact of child agents can be very noticeable and bring a sim to its knees (or at least it was possible in the past). |

Okay this leads to another question. Do these child agents affect the lag on a parcel along a sim border? Theoretically, no. But, land parcels that edge onto sim borders, tend to have their own little oddities. |

Okay this leads to another question. Do these child agents affect the lag on a parcel along a sim border? The Child Agents line displays the number of avatars outside your region that can see into it, which can also slow your region down if it's a significant number. https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=4780 --Hugsy _____________________

You kids are doomed to grow up to be greengrocers if you don't learn the correct use of the apostrophe. Pep (It's correct not to use an apostrophe in its correct place) _____________________

*bump* It's likely to be "agents (aka avatars) that aren't on the sim but for which the sim is actively maintaining an interest list". This. While the avatars on bordering sims won't be creating collission calculations, their client is constantly asking for information from your sim: textures, object locations, information about avatars present. This will cause some strain on the server your sim is on. Not much, but given enough of these child avatars, it can be noticable. Similarly, such child avatars may be rendered by people within your sim. This won't cause lag for your sim, but it may cause lag for the client of the people within your sim, so they may experience lag nonetheless, and probably blame it on your sim. This used to be rather common while there were still casinos around: you might have been in a completely empty mainland sim, but if there was a casino right across the sim border, it was still be a horrible place to live. |
