Hi guys I am doing my dissertation research on Second life about sports brands awareness. I hope you can help me to fill some questionnaire. To answer the questions you have to reflect back on your experiences in Second Life. If you feel uncomfortable with any questions, you can skip it. The most questions are asked in a single or multiple choice format. Please note that this study is purely for academic purposes. All the survey result will be posted after the research completed. I do not do study directly for companies. All the research data will be kept confidentially and anonymously (e.g. I will not ask for your real name). I am only interested in the average responses given by very large numbers of avatars, and not in the responses of any one individual. Also you will be very welcome to give me some suggestion about this survey^^ http://www.yimingluo.co.uk/blog/?page_id=25Thank you very much

This is clearly a marketing survey. If your dissertation is about using surveys as marketing research, you could just say so (including information about who will profit from this work). Every question there is designed to find out about existing trends for these products and what might be possible for them inworld. Send me free shoes or I'm not playing. Also, while these questions are well-targeted, some are unclear. I.e.: Under 'reasons for being in SL' you have "following suit". What is meant by that?

I can answer quickly. RL brands, stay the Hell out of my Second Life. Or what Mari said.

As Brann said -- All of these questions have practically nothing to do with my awareness of sports brands but is completely about how someone should market sports brands to me.

I'm concerned about your choice of "sports brands" in Second Life. I assume you mean real world brands. Frankly, you won't find anything other than the occasional resident-created knock-off. To my knowledge, there are no real-life sports oriented clothing brands doing business in Second Life.
Couple that with the general resistance you'll find in the community to real-world brands entering the in-world marketplace, and your dissertation is going to be without substance.
I strongly urge you to consider this a non-starter, and choose a different subject.

I remember when Adidas had a presence in SL. Everyone laughed at their 250-plus prim shoes (I think that was the count for each shoe...)

But i can see a lot stores sell the resident-created real life sports brands stuff, i thought that can be a oppotunite for sports brands launch their business in world.. The important things is i already chose it and cannot change to other anymore... and i have to finished by next couple of month.....

The only thing on your profile is a pick for 'Nike Main Store' - is this really Nike? Why do they have a bot? All very confusing

From: yiming Loire ...But i can see a lot stores sell the resident-created real life sports brands stuff... Really? I mean... really? And if so, does any of it actually *sell* ? I'm not sure I've ever seen anybody wearing a sports brand in-world. (Well... unless "Pornstars" counts, which is kind of a parody of a parody of a sports brand.) Even in real life, they have to generously bribe famous athletes for their endorsements to get people to buy the stuff. Maybe in the interest of Science you could get Beckham to do an in-world event and see if anybody takes a free t-shirt. On the other hand, just maybe something like this could hold some appeal in Lively, or some other virtual world that specifically targets the teen demographic.

Perhaps you could turn this around by doing a study of why RL sports brands do not translate well into SL. That, to my mind, would be much more interesting, and might not necessitate changing your agreed topic. Properly conducted research doesn't always yield the results you expect - otherwise there'd be no point doing it. If this really is student research and not a marketing scam, I wish you the best of luck for the time you have left (but I didn't do your survey, sorry)

From: Qie Niangao Really? I mean... really? And if so, does any of it actually *sell* ? I'm not sure I've ever seen anybody wearing a sports brand in-world. I have a pair of Converse - not the "pornstars" rip-off. There are a few selling under the Chucks/Converse brand name. But obviously they're not made by Converse themselves, just regular content-creators in-world. They are awesome, scripted-colour changing shoes and they're my favourite thing I've ever bought in SL. Oh and I got a free Puma t-shirt from the Freebie dungeon. That one ended up in the trash.
