Hello-
I hope I can explain the problem we are having and get some suggestions about how to do what we want. We have a sim that is divided into 2 sections. One is for roleplay and the other is intended for having rental apartments.
We want the apartment renters to have control over their media and security.
The apartments overlook the sea (though no beach), and are very roomy, in a specific theme. We would like to generate income to offset some of the costs of maintaining the rest of the sim, and have about 5,184 sqm available.
Each home is about 40 prims.
We originally places 9 custom homes on parcels of 576 sqm each. Unfortunately, that only allowed for 131 prims, and when you take away the house from that, the renter would only be left with 91 prims.
We created a rental group so that it would allow for them to place objects, and distibuishing from the land group which was designed to run the rest of the sim for roleplay.
I don't think a rental is good without allowing media control, but maybe others have opinions about that. And also, is there some average formula for a reasonable weekly rent payment vs prims allowed?
Separating the parcels seemed like the only way to allow for media control, so to give someone 400 prims would mean having 3 homes, just so we can have a large enough parcel for each. And if we could have rented the homes for 750 a week, our income would drop from 6,750 to 2,250.
So my questions are, what is a reasonable rate and how many prims would be included in that. and is providing meda control to rentals a common thing, and if so, is giving each renter their own parcel the most advantageous way to accommplish this?
Thank you for your help

Thank you for your help Dmitriy I've seen 'reasonable' rates on the order of $L 1000 / wk for 468 prims... perhaps a shade lower (I'm slightly lower, for instance). Providing media controls - I can't think of anyone that doesn't allow this. Doing it via their own parcel - yeah, the risk is that if you want to force them to keep some prims like the house 'fixed' on a parcel they control, you have to work with them on that.

Yep, that's about right. I'm renting what would be the equivalent of 850L a week for 468 prims. However I don't rent weekly, but Monthly, and not by the prim but by the Sq meter. 468 prims is a 2048 meter sq parcel. You may or may not want to offer homes on the parcels. Some may like the cookie cutter look of the neighborhood, some may not. I allow my renters to choose their own homes and that works out quite well.

expanding on Darien Caldwell's idea about letting them place what ever they want if you do want it ti match the rpg side you could make half a dozen or so diffent houses for them to choise from and go from there. that way it's not cookie cutter but not outside of the rpg theme either

I did a lot of renting before I finally bought some land. I definitely preferred the places that gave me media ability and I did prefer the lots where I at least had some choice of houses. Also, if I remember correctly, the *average* cost/prim was roughly L$2 per prim, with the actual prim count being dependent upon the size of the land -- some cost a bit more if the surroundings included beach or common facilities and such, and a few in some not so great areas cost a bit less.

91 prims on a 576 parcel isn't bad, when the house is thrown in.
You do need to keep tabs on your renters, though...the little so-'n-so's will rez a half dozen 40 prim chairs before you know it.
