Hi guys, In 10 days time I take possession of what has been claimed to be 'The Fastest Laptop on the Planet'. I was returning from a business trip a couple of weeks back when I decided to buy a computer mag to read on the plane. The feature article was asking 'what is the fastest laptop on the planet?' The magazine chose the three top custom gaming laptop manufacturers, and asked them to produce the fastest model they could, and they then pitted each one against the other, throwing every graphics hungry games they could at them. The eventual winner, with the title of 'Fastest Laptop on the Planet' went to the The Rock, and their Xtreme 770 machine. The specs are just simply awesome (I won't reel them all off here, take a look on their website if you are interested ( http://www.rockdirect.com/). They beat off all the other custom builders, including Dell etc. So, having decided to avail myself of one of these monsters, and not having UKP2,500 (around USD5000) to spare, but sparing it anyway, I have now been given my delivery date of the 20th March. So, the big question is: how will SL fare on the fastest laptop out there, coupled with a true 10Mb broadband connection? If I am still lagged to hell, if my clothes take forever to download, if my face still seems to cycle through a 100 textures before it finally settles on my correct facial texture, etc, etc, well, what then? What will be the excuses then? Rock (no relation)

It will be ok to very good, but probably not the fluid, awesome experience you might hope for.
I have a Rock CTX Pro, with the nvidia geforce go7950gts (the fastest laptop graphics card of its time, with 512mb memory). SL runs well, and looks great with the water options all turned on, but still dropping below 15fps in built up areas. I can't remember the processor speed, but it was the fastest available.

Don't count on that date - Rock (the company) are having a big supply problem at the moment.

From: Deira Llanfair Don't count on that date - Rock (the company) are having a big supply problem at the moment. This is the first time they have given me a delivery date, as the bottleneck was the supply of the new Penryn processors. I got an email saying this delivery is now guaranteed, and a fixed delivery date. To my knowledge, reading their forums, once a date is guaranteed they have always delivered. Rock

On your end, you'll have way more computer than you need to max out the settings in SL. On SL's end, nothing will change, so server side lag issues will be the same, the bugs will, of course, still be there, etc. Your connection speed will make a difference as well. Killer laptop, though!

Rock I hope so - I had an email on March 5th saying mine should be delivered within 2 weeks - that gives them till the 19th. Prior to that I had one at the end of January saying expect delivery in 3 weeks. I wonder whether mine will arrive before yours, but I won't hold my breath. (I do want this for more than just SL.)

You will like it. Sl will still crash on its own and give out of memory errors at full-ultra preferences. But it will look great with Windlight. Hope you splurged on the warranty. Do they have the no fault accident protection like Dell?

Mine hasn't. :,,,,,,,,( Instead I've been offered an upgrade to a HD DVD drive - but I don't need that!

Nope, it did not arrive ( I called them, they gave me the same as ever ...'I'm sorry, but we are still awaiting the arrival of the Penryn processors'. I told The Rock that my patience has worn thin now, and if they say the same next week then the order is cancelled, and I will go for the machine that came #02 (but DOES exist) the Dell M1730. Rock
