Does anyone know how to make the ground "disappear" to find a lost item or items. I used to know but can't remember. Was a type of rendering but I may be wrong. Thank you in advance!

You can also disable camera constraints and look underground. If its transparent ctrl alt t will show things up as red. then there is something that makes things look like everything is a bunch of triangles forgot how to do that though. It is in client window. I can't remember how to enable client think its ctrl alt D is this right?

You can also go to Client > Rendering > Wireframe. This is another way to see thru everything, like jewelry that winds up inside your avatars body. Just Disable Camera restraints to go down as far as you need to. Wireframe can take a little bit of time to get used to, but it works well for some things.
If you've lost something underground, you might also want to look at the zero point in your sim. Lost items seem to wind up there and you can retrieve or ask the land owner to return your prims items.

Client>Rendering>Types is also useful for turning off surface patch, if the item is large it's easy to see. Same goes for the other things, worth having a play with this part of the debug as there's many useful things.

Find Zero Point In Sim
04-14-2008 19:08
I've read through this thread and have tried everything here to find something I believe to be underground on my land, to no avail.
One post above mentions to go to the zero point of the sim. This may sound dumb, but how do you find the zero point of a sim?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

The sims are set up on grids. You can think of them as X,Y,Z OR as North/South, East/West, Up/Down. (I'm not entirely sure what axis goes with which direction, but it's moot for finding 0,0,0.)
At the top of your screen, you'll see the name of the sim you're in, and three numbers corresponding to your position in it. (Pooley 128,128,0 would be the center of the Pooley sim, at 0 altitude)
If you walk or fly in a direction that causes the first two numbers to decrease, eventually you'll come to the sim corner with coordinates 0,0,0. (If you overshoot you'll end up in the next sim at 0,256,0 or 256,0,0 or whatever.)
If it's a land sim instead of a water sim, the 0,0 point may not be at 0 meters height, so you would need to turn off land rendering or use the camera controls to peek under the ground as described above.
I'm sure I've mad that about as clear as mud...
