Steve

I'm on a Mac so I'm not sure I can be of much help - but I don't think Windows 7 is supported yet. That doesn't mean your friend can't play though - it just means LL can't offer the comprehensive support they offer users of other OS. [cough, choke, splutter]

qtc.dll is a quicktime file. Check out this page and see if it helps:

Download and install the latest Quicktime. There should not be a problem with Windows 7, many of us are already running SL on Win7. Just make sure your video driver is up to date as well as Quicktime.

Hopefully Linden Labs will get around to supporting Windows 7 around the time they support the Nvidia 9000 series.

I have a month old PC with Windows 7, and I can run 4 different SL viewers (Official, Snowglobe, Emerald, and Kirsten's) with no problems, and no download of Quicktime.

Checking my Windows and Program Files(x86) (where all the SL installs are), I don't have any qtc.dll, so not sure what his problem would be.

Quicktime is required only if you want to be able to see video in SL. You do not need Quicktime intstalled to run SL, but if you do have Quicktime then it must be up to date. The message seems to imply that the user has Quicktime but it's either out of date or has a missing or damaged dll file. The fix is to either uninstall Quicktime completely or get the lastest version and install it.

Nobody is going to be able to assist you with this until more questions are answered.

Questions that need answering would consist of:

Computer Brand/Model: (Dell, Gateway, Etc)
Computer Make: (Desktop or Laptop)
Operating System: (Windows 7 Home, Premium, Ultimate? Which Bit? 32 or 64?)
Graphics Card: (Some cards are not compatable with SL)
Amount of RAM: (1gb, 2gb, 3gb, etc)

Now onto the other side of things.

Have the drivers been updated on the computer? if not, a driver could be outdated, especially a graphics driver which could cause some problems.

In terms of qtc.dll, the file comes standard with quicktime, and since the default options for media are generally on, quicktime is a requirement to run SL when you have videos. This also has many different factors involved, but safe bet would be to install Quicktime. Best bet would be to uninstall quicktime fully from the system, and redownload/reinstall. Pay attention to operating systems as you'll want either the Vista version, or the Windows 7 version, provided they have one for 7 currently available.

I'll pay attention to this forum post for one week, after that if there are no responses I will cease looking at this post. If that happens, feel free to contact me in game when you see me on.

Network connection? While it would not involve a quicktime DLL, be aware that a wireless connection is touch-and-go.

qtc.dll

Windows 7 is not the issue, all the SL Clients I have tried work fine. The only thing I recommend is using the " right click - install as admin " method, not just hitting the install button.

qtc.dll is a library file for QuickTime. The error means that there is a bad or incomplete install of QuickTime on their computer. When SL starts it looks for QT and trys to start it if it is present. If QT is present but fails to start, SL will fail to start.

Go to the apple website and download the latest QuickTime, then uninstall QuckTime on this PC and reinstall using the version just downloaded.

Do the same for the SL Client.

That should correct the issue.
