Hi.
I'm having a hard time using search to find new fun places. Perhaps I'm just not using the right search words etc but the most interesting places I've found are either from word of mouth, or suggested through viewing avatar profiles.
A friend for example dropped me a landmark for "Astral Park" (I think it was) and my partner had a wonderful time floating around the universe. Someone else dropped one for Africa, an equally enjoyable place.
Only few of the really fun places I found are on the first 5 or so pages of a search for "fun", "Fun place" etc and can't help to think I'm missing a lot of places to visit.
Does anyone here use search to find new places to explore? Sure I use it to find -specific- places like shopping for something.
But some of the coolest places in SL is really - just wierd and not really sure of an accurate search word.
So how do U find non-specific new places to explore?

Hey Zerock..... I feel your pain man LOL It's true, the SL search engine leaves a lot to be desired because unfortuantely a lot of those so called 'popular' places are only popular because the sim owners are either sending tons of bots in to boost traffic.....or they are newbie friendly and have cmaping and freebies. Not really the most interesting places at all. But.....I have found a lot of cool places by going into the SL flickr page and browsing through the images people post. Some of the wildest, most creative areas are photographed and posted in flickr, and many times with URL links so you can grab the landmark. Another thing I do is try to use not so ordinary words when I search places......words like 'beach' or 'club' or 'park' are just way too common and over used. Often by pulling an odd word out of left field, I'll stumble on some really amazing stuff. Words I've used in the past......'monument' 'temple' 'steampunk' 'vintage' 'relic' .... you just have to use your imagination. But I definitely suggest looking at flickr too.....there's even a group dedicated to cool landmarks I believe. You can IM me in-world too and I'll pass over some of my faves to ya. Oh, October Country is really neat.... so is Carnival of Doom.... Mexico.... Paris 1900... Galviston... any of the Rezzable sims...Cannery... Silent..... Emvee Cuba.... Rustica... Gion....Ichiba... Liquides.... you get the idea....I know tons of places. LOL

Ooh, using Flickr or Snapzilla to find fun places is a good idea.
I check the picks of interesting or unique looking avatars, or inspect interesting builds to find the creator and check out their profile picks. I've spent whole afternoons hopping from place to place sightseeing, and have stumbled on some really cool things that way.

There have been several threads in the past about favorite places to have fun or amazing builds. Might try searching this forum, too.

Also, keep an eye on the NPIRL blog. They mention a LOT of great places: http://npirl.blogspot.com/

QFT. Or, equivalently, join the group "Impossible IRL" to get in-world notecards with more fascinating places than anyone has time to visit. Not exactly on-topic, but if one is interested in cool and unusual new things (instead of places), the Lummerland Show and Tell may be worth a try. For a taste, see http://flo-votes.blogspot.com/.

From: Cristalle Karami This is what the Showcase is for... supposedly. Did I hear sarcasm? Or did I add that myself? If there isn't a small SL scam in the Showcase choices, there is a whole lot of stupidity. One or the other, there just aren't any other explanations.
