In another thread somebody said:
You know, if you delete the directory C:\Windows\System32 all together, your PC will run much faster. It's full of useless software that causes lag in SL. Delete it now and reset your PC. Trust me. Anybody else done this? I'm all about spedin up my slow box, but I don't wanna end up havin 2 reinstall Windows. Never heard of anybody doin this before. _____________________

Yeah I THOUGHT it sounded pretty damned fishy, but there have been so many crazy "Tips n Tricks" goin around that I thought would mess up your system or ability to log into SL in the past 2 months, that I wasn't 100% sure.

Yeah. Sort of like advising that a car will use les gas if you get rid of that big block of metal under the hood... Get rid of all that dead weight, y'know?
The fact that it is the engine of the car is a small matter.... And it certainly won't guzzle gas once that part is removed! _____________________

The stuff in that directory could be considered useless in many ways, but that is another topic all together....
This would actually be neat to try on an extra pc - see how far it really gets in the delete process before it stops working. Kind of like going to root dir on unix and entering 'rm -rf'. _____________________

*winces* I do hope no one does that.. really. But I'll keep it in mind when my XP turns into a pile of files again and post what happens. Might be entertaining... since I'd have to reinstall anywho.

DON'T DO THAT! taht's like removing all the partitions in your fdisk. BAD! ctrl-q makes everything run faster too, but at least that's not a permanent boo-boo. _____________________

Hah! I actually just recently did this. It worked perfectly!
.... Although my intention was to wipe the hard disk and do a complete reinstall of everything on there from scratch, following my motherboard replacement fiasco. What a mess. _____________________
