First I want to appologize if this is in the wrong section.
Second.
I am new to the game and would like to know how the renting of land and building a house goes. What I mean is there any rules and how do I go about the process?

I am sorry if this is confusing but I am total lost with the game.

Hi Syion welcome to SL and the forums. :)

Well, as far as rules go that depends on where you rent. Most places you rent at will provide a notecard that explains the expectations and rules for you. To rent there is almost always a rental cube that you pay into to secure the rental. Of course that is for a vacant place. :)

Lots of places come with a house already on site. If you rent a lot that is vacant you can place your own house there. Houses are made from "prims" and each lot only supports so many prims so you need to know how many you can get away with on the land. This is very important if you go house shopping. The more prims you use for the house, the less you can use for household items (beds, etc).

Your best bet is inputting "for rent" in the search in world. That will show you places that have rentals. There are landlords on these forums as well. Maybe one will answer this thread and let you know how to reach them for info.

Good luck.

Look for a landlord who's been around a while too, and if you want to build your own house you may be able to build it part time on a skypad then drop it to ground level later, many landlord have houses they let you use on your land for free or will remove houses if you just want a vacant block, there are stacks of good land around it really is a tennants market at the moment, around $2 per prim per week I think is average.
It's not always the size of the plot, it may be double or half prim block, and in the end prims are the currency of the landmarket rather than metres.
Look in the Property rentals of the forums too for some good deals.
And when you pay the rentboxes this may or may not give you a group invite so you can build on the land, you may have to IM the owner or wait for him to send you an invite.
Don't pay lump sums in pseudo purchasing schemes, just pay your rent.

Not to be contrarian--and certainly not to be discouraging--but just pointing out that, for a new resident, it's not all that urgent to get a house and land and all that. It can be fun, but there are a lot of other things that are fun, too, so... might consider exploring around for a while to see what activities and locations are interesting.

But building a house is great, too, so if that's what seems like the most fun to start with, go for it!

Also, noting your join date, I might suggest stopping in at The Shelter and/or NCI (there are others, too) to see if any of the classes they have at those places might be of interest. I'm sure they both have classes on building, and I bet they have sessions on buying/renting land, and stuff like that.

Anyway, welcome, and have fun!

And building your own house can be a challenge too, I can't build a few things but houses isn't one of them, shops I can do ok, one trick when you build your own is to us 10m cubes for walls but hollow them then path cut them into 2 or 3 sides.and using shear you can make roof panels the same way :)
SEARCH > EVENTS > EDUCATION is a great way to find classes too and even hase a 5 minute warning notify button to remind you and offer you a TP :)

Hi Syion, welcome~!!

I agree that having land and a house isn't something you want to jump into right away.....mostly because aftrer exploring a while you'll have a better idea of what's available and what kind of home you really want. There's tons of rental places as well as bare land you can rent and place your own home.

When I started in SL I sot of did a gradual progression. I first rented an apartment which was pretty cool.....2 stories.....I was able to learn some basics of placing furniture and how prims factored in. (prim usage is key and everything is based on prim availability...the more land....the more prims available...hence the more objects can be placed in said land)

I then rented a cool house on an island and the landlord became one of my best SL friends and helped me a out with my future endeavors to buy my own land.......so work your way through slowly. Allow some time to learn and explore and really determine what it is you want. You'll be a lot happier over all the more you understand. ;)

The Ivory Tower of Primatives has great self paced tutorials on how to build stuff. You should start there. It also has sandbox areas where you can practice building.

Well, it is kinda relevant to how many prims you might need for a house, I suppose. But usually, when people talk about non-prim items, they're talking of clothing. So, for example, there are non-prim skirts--textures that get applied to the avatar directly in the shape and location of a skirt, adjustable in Edit / Appearance... and there are prim skirts, which are separate attachments that you can wear, constructed from the same "prim" geometric solids that make up houses and plants and furniture and pretty much everything else you see in-world that isn't an avatar. (When prims are attached to an avatar, they don't count against parcel limits, so clothing prims aren't so limited.) Shoes and hair are other examples where there are non-prim avatar appearance versions, or prim attachments.

There are other visual effects that aren't prims and aren't part of avatar appearance. Particles for example. They're emitted by prims, and can take a wild variety of shapes, textures, and behaviors; in some uses, they can substitute for prims (flames, for example).

Also if you find yourself with often your camera stuck in walls and textures you probably don't want to rent place that has apartments or cramped together narrow spaces to live in.

non prim items: notecards, scripts, landmarks, textures, animations, gestures, body parts (eyes, system-generated hair, shapes, skin) and clothing items that are not objects (where a box icon precedes the item).

everything else, i believe, is prim-based.
