You can try contacting the bot's owner, some (not all) are glad to hand back mistakes.

IM the bot owner and see if he/she will return mistakes, assuming it was a mistake.

Of course, how people can lose land to a bot nowadays is beyond me.

:) It happens. As a matter of fact, I was buying a pair of plots from a landbaron one day, and we agreed to a price for the two combined, so he joined the two and entered the price--except for the last digit. He set it for sale, we both caught the error immediately, and he somehow corrected it before the bots descended. Which is kind of a shame, really: it would have been fun to watch him fight his own bots to get the land back. :D

Yeah, I suppose it is possible.

I guess I am just WAY too careful where I double/triple check the numbers at every step, and there are quite a few steps now.

But, no, you set the price and clicked through all the verification dialog boxes. The land is gone, and the only way to get it back is if the new owner is kind enough to sell it back to you for close to what you paid for it. To the Lindens, it is a done deal, and they won't get involved, unless there were some rule violations going on.

It's not a good system, I shift a lot of land between 3 groups in small parcells and I feel ABSOLUTELY PARANOID every time I do so with $1L sales to myself. I defy anyone to do 20 transfers in an hour and say they felt confident and safe during the process.
I haven't lost any yet but I have put it for sale to the wrong person a few times.

If the Ninja group got it, they will return it to you. Otherwise you may be out of luck. Who is the new owner?

Why L$1 and not L$0?

L$0 would force you to select someone specific to sell to.

Scarier for me is when I am walking someone else through the process. I have to keep repeating "Remember, set it to ____ _____, not to anyone!!!!"

Hmm didn't really know you could sell land for $0, I can afford the dollar but if it automatically locks you into sell to a person, that is good, wonder how many other people have been doing the same as me.

Just cut a little 16m plot from the middle of your land and sell it to yourself 20 times in an hour then come back to us and tell us you didn't feel nervous or the system already is the best, and can't be improved :)

This would be no problem, because he's totally aware of the potential loss of his land if he screws up. Most people have no idea how important it is to go slow and not make a single mistake. They don't know there is no margin for error...

I'm also aware of the potential loss of my land too, but it doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy using the system and opposing any improvements to it :)

there's been countless threads with a lot of possible improvements. But we can't seem to get any that are rushing lazy amateur ignorant-of-landbots proof.

Nowadays there is a big yellow warning box ("ATTENTION!";) displayed if you want to sell your land to "Anyone" instead of a named resident, also listing the sales price. I think that's already a significant improvement over the way things were before.

On the plus side, Jack says they're planning for resident land sales by the Auction page eventually. I should think that would become the standard means of selling land "to Anyone". I'm not entirely sure there'd be any compelling reason at that point for using the purely in-world mechanism for anything but sales to named avatars. Would there? If not, it would sure reduce the need for in-world landbots--but the auction engine would have to get beefed-up pretty dramatically to handle the increased load of automated web accesses. Still, a lot cheaper to scale a web service than the Grid.

Not always. I recently accidentally set a piece of land for sale to anyone at 0L. I was certain that I typed the price in, but it ended up at 0L. I assumed that I'd typed something wrong and it was changed by the programme to 0. I spotted it immediately and clicked the Cancel Sale button.

Ive sold land for years now and never lost any land due to my not reading the messages. There is no absolute way to idiot proof sales.... unless a Linden was there holding your hand.

if that was my business and how i made money i would take my time to do it right and not have mistakes thats why when i put stuff out for sale i double check triple check and then check it again

A simple 5 minute delay before parcels were listed on the "Search" would have solved not only this problem, but also the "sell to anyone" land transfer problem.

Since the bots use search to find land.

Would be better for everyone .. except those Land Bots who are intentionally swooping .. but I don't see why protecting their interests matters.

Tina, what was the outcome of your request to get the land back?
