I have a question ... I have a house on the mainland along with furniture, artwork, etc. scattered around inside it. I have bought a bigger piece of land and want to move everything to the new site. Is there an easy way to pack everything together so I can just make one trip?

There are a couple of ways to do this. You can first click on the house, then the edit option. You can then go around and also click on everything single thing in and around and when they are all highlighted, you just click on "take". That will take everything into your inventory exactly the way it is placed on your land. When you are on your new land, click on something and into edit mode, then rez the other stuff (which will be a coalesced box) while in edit mode. It will all rez exactly like it was when you took it into inventory. An easier way, at least for me, was to disable your camera controls...zoom out somewhat so you are basically above your home, etc, and then go into edit mode, and "draw" a box around your home and other items. This will highlight everything within that "box" and you can take it all into inventory in one fell swoop that way. Then just follow the above instructions when rezzing out of your inventory (make sure in edit mode, etc.)

Select everything all together, then right-click and TAKE it all at once. This will come into your inventory with an icon that looks like a busted rubix cube or jenga block. It will take the name of ONE of the objects that is included in the jumble. I'd suggest doing this in chunks (say one room per chunk). When you set it out again, all objects will be in the same relation to each other that they were when you took them into inventory... But make sure you move them all together (they should all be selected still when you set them out--BUT THEY ARE NOT LINKED) to get them into the right place on your new land.

I like sunni's suggestion... camera above and select the whole house and all it's contents.
Only think I'm not sure about is rotation. If you need to rotate all this on the new land... that might be tricky, since you will likely NOT be able to link all these objects.

OK Thanks,
I like the camera idea too. I'm not too worried about the orientation yet. The house will fit in its present orientation. Once I'm settled in, I can move it around.

Depending on how big your plot is - or how far you zoom out - selecting everything can miss a few things (Linden plants, poseballs and other small/tiny prims). If you want to make sure you have it all then compare the prim count in the edit window to the prim count in About Land. (Or use Client / Rendering / Hide Selected - from memory, may be in a different place - to see if you missed anything obvious. Just uncheck it again when you have all of it) --- Personal caution: pick up one single item first, tp to a different sim, clear cache and relog and make sure it's still in your inventory. When you're ready to take the whole selection, check View / Statistics Bar and make sure Pending Downloads/Uploads are both 0 (or regularly dropping back to exactly 0). Not a guarantee nothing bad will happen, but it's a good way to rule out sim/asset problems .

Only think I'm not sure about is rotation. If you need to rotate all this on the new land... that might be tricky, since you will likely NOT be able to link all these objects. Selecting everything is the best way to go. Everything stays in the same relative position. Be sure to set Select Only My objects on or off depending on ownership and permissions. IF you forget to go into edit mode before you rezz the coalesced object, then just select the whole lot again and take it back into inventory. Then Edit mode and try again. Trying to deal with it in bits is a sure route to a nervous breakdown. On the other hand, making a complete mess of things is a great excuse to start everything from the ground up. Many people are caught between a desire to "do it better next time" and the angst of junking all of that hard work.

And just one additional suggestion, Riko: throw down a cube, and name it "Riko's property" or something. When you hi-lite everything in edit including the cube, hold down ctrl, click the cube (unhi-lited), click it again (hi-lited), and then take it all. In your inventory, the puzzle piece-looking thing will be named "Riko's property."

i thought this was yet another thread about someone leaving sl ... an "alterting the media" sort of thing ... for any of you who have seen the first "arthur" film ... for those of you who haven't ... dudley moore tells john gielgud (his butler) that he will take a bath .. gielgud replies "i'll alert the media".
