I bought hair I really love but it has 5 lights attached. I look like a lighthouse. How can I remove a couple of the lights?

Find somewhere you which will allow you to drag the hair out onto the ground. Go to View > Highlight Transparent so you can see the light sources. Right-click > Edit on the hair, check Edit Linked Parts, then click on one of the light sources. Go to Tools > Unlink, then repeat as necessary to remove the rest of the lights. Take the hair back into inventory, clean up the removed prims, and you should be all set.

First make a copy of the hair for safety. Wear the hair, and type ctrl/alt/T to make the invisible lights visible in red. Then, presuming the hair is editable, right click on it and select 'edit'. Make sure there's a tick in the Edit Linked parts then click on one of the light balls. You can then either delete it or, to avoid unbalancing the illumination, under the Features tab, reduce the illumination intensity/radius/falloff to something better. Make a note of the original settings, just in case. In order for SL to remember the new settings you need to take the hair off for 10/15 secs before you wear it again. If the hair's not editable, I think you're stuffed. Hope that helps.

Hi Blush Assuming the hair is mod...first off, TAKE A COPY if you haven't already. Then stand on a posing stand to fix your av, turn on Highlight Invisibles (Ctrl-Alt-T), select your hair and edit... you should see the lights floating round your head (usually ball-shaped). In Edit, bring up "More" and check Edit Linked Parts .. then select the ones you don't want and just hit the Delete key. Ctrl-Alt-T again to remove invisibles et voila! Inc

Ann's right ... Drifter, I don't think SL allows you to unlink parts on something that's attached anymore. .

Yeah, in my experience, you can move things around and resize while wearing, but you have to rez in-world to unlink.

Thanks so much for all the speedy replies. I've been trying to remove them while the hair was attached to my avie. So apparently, that was the problem. I'll do as you said Ann and drop it in my house. Then I'll do the surgery.
Thanks again

Can the lights be turned off? If not I'd suggesting removing them all and using a separate facelight when needed.

LOL I couldn't drop it at my house... way too many prims!! So I went to the Ivory Towers and dropped it.. Did the surgery and it looks great. I'm not a lighthouse anymore... thanks for all the help. This is only my 4th day in SL and I'm having so much fun.

Allow me to congratulate you on your sense of style and style of sense. Nothing annoys a builder quite like having an animated beacon stumble through their carefully-wrought ambiance.

From: Darion Rasmuson Can the lights be turned off? If not I'd suggesting removing them all and using a separate facelight when needed. That'd be an option for anyone to scared to do a more complicated edit, and it'd have the advantage that you could do it while the hair is attached (maybe you want to wear it there & then, and can't find somewhere to drop a primtastic ball of hair). Go into view transparent and wear the hair (or preferably a copy). Right-click & edit then edit linked parts to select each light in turn. Go to the Features tab of the edit dialog and untick the 'light' option of anything you don't want to light up. Maybe leave one light lit, although I'd also suggest reducing the radius somewhat... too many facelights are set to the default of 10m when 1m would be more appropriate.
