Q: Public Profiles & Adult Content

With all the adult content changes, my question is regarding public profiles. It has always been my understanding that profiles were to be kept "PG" rated. However, what about your "picks" section? I have seen some pretty rank pornographic pictures in that section and my question is WHO is actually in violation?

1. The person PUTTING a group in their profile picks that has an X rated picture?

or

2. The person that started a group USING a pornographic picture?

or

3. BOTH?

Profiles are a bit of a mess but basically the part that LL look at and that needs to be PG is your profile picture and the part you yourself write.

As for picks, everyone can edit those anyway so if you have a pick you're uncomfortable with edit the picture and description but you'd have to run foul of a grumpy Linden to get in trouble for a pick.

Yes BUT... wouldn't using explicit sexual acts in wording or a picture of a RL cum shot be considered a violation? After all, your profile is PUBLIC and ANYONE can view it. That is why I am asking this question. I"m not sure if the person that started a group using that wording and that sort of picture in their group would be in violation whether they are on an adult sim or not.... OR would it be the person putting this sort of thing IN their profiles would be in violation. Some wouldn't know how to change their picture or wording... like a TRUE noob for example. Heck, they can barely walk let alone change a picture in their profile. LOL

The people who could give you an answer are over in the blogs, sotake everything we say here as our best guess.

Profile pictures are supposed to be PG. Picks are also supposed to follow a moderate theme and the lower down the list you go the more leeway you have. Bare breast and buns are probably OK for picks as long as they are not RL photos.

But here is the reality of the situation:
1- Lindens do not go looking for things to correct. If no one files an AR you can have RL pics of some guy screwing a monkey or whatever.
2- No matter what you put in, if someone files an AR against it, the final call is up to the whim of the Linden that picks up the ticket. One may be fine with bare avatar breasts in the picks, the next may think nipple shading on a bikini pic is too much.

In my opinion, we are all responsible for what is in our picks.

I agree with some inconsistancies in policies... this is a little off topic but I have found this to be true with some listings on slx. Items that have been pulled for ONE word that may be considered as "profanity" when in the context it was used was NOT profane at all. To my knowledge there is no list of "words" that may be considered profane.

Where is George Carlin's list of the 7 dirty words you cannot say! HAHA!

LL is fickle. If you are worried and want to really be safe, keep the picks totally PG - editing the picture and/or words if necessary.

This is a PG forum ;)

However, what you'll get in trouble for is putting pics in the part you directly control, your description, your picture. Those are the parts you'll get spanked for.

Picks, as adult places are allowed LL turn a blind eye to those. Whether this will always be the case is anyone's guess.

Direct control; I believe you have direct control on all tabs.
With ll lately, you never know... Ironicly, even Ads you control. But adult content creators that want to put an ad out have no option.

LL is driving it too far in my oppinion.

There was some chaos over in Zindra last week when Blondin Linden - the assigned Community Manager there - started ARing Adult-oriented profiles. Quite a rude awakening.

Rhonda's correct.. The thing about profiles is that everything in it, including groups and picks, is under your control. Acceptance of the PG profile thing is part of what's agreed to when you get let in this place, so knowingly displaying stuff that's not PG DOES put you at risk for an AR. Groups can be hidden, pick pictures and wording can be blanked or changed.. it's that way for a reason. You don't have to show someone *elses* nasty through a group or pick, and you don't lose any abilities to fully participate in those things either. Some places are best to NOT have in your picks even if you erase it all and only leave the Slurl. I myself am in a group with a totally x-rated group pic and nasty description.. it stays hidden.. covered, like my ass is on the PG thing. Short answer to the OP is BOTH, IF it gets AR'ed and responded to.

How is one supposed to keep one's profile PG when the Adult words are not disclosed?

The ramifications of the "Adult" policy get more Kafkaesque by the day.

At least on "You Bet Your Life," you won a prize by guessing the secret word. In Second Life, you get suspended for it.

Wow. Did he really?

Without consultation with the people in question first?

From my understanding that is how it went down. Gavin Hird left Zindra because of it (the straw that broke the camel's back in his case). Perhaps Blondin did it as an act of 'tough love' to make folks take the adult content rules seriously after the September 15th deadline.

I think most saw it as an betrayal of confidence.

I am really rather surprised. Whatever else might have been said about Blondin, he never struck me as the sort to flex muscle arbitrarily like that. It's certainly not a very "community-oriented" way to proceed. I can understand his desire (or even need) to bring profiles into line with the new policies, but that's a pretty counterproductive way to go about it.

Sorry for this minor derail. You may all now continue with this interesting conversation . . . :)

As well they should! Even your garden variety of asshat gets a warning before action. Although a warning might be all that happens from the AR's, that was still the wrong way to handle it IMO.
