Is it my imagination or is there less traffic and events in SL than there were a year or two ago? And if so, do you think it's related to the economy or is it part of a natural cycle of high and low traffic. Or something else.

Christmas season is usually slow. People running about doing all the holiday shopping, etc. _____________________

It has been speculated that with the grid being so much bigger and with many of those currently on line being bots, there is too much space. Makes it seem like a ghost town.
Or are you noticing less listings in the events searches? |

Or are you noticing less listings in the events searches? Seems there are fewer events listed and fewer people at those events. Popular events used to be jam packed and it was common not to be able to get in for a while due to overcrowding. |

I have to say, that holding events specificly music events is suffering. In short venues are not making half of what they put out for the event. |

They all got First Lives and let bots run their second lives. It's a new fad these days

The events listing really needs a total overhaul as currently its just compltely abused by spammers. On the few occasions i hold events and also the people i know who do we tend to use specific groups to advertise them and or just TP friends in etc havent posted in events listing for more than 1 year now. So in short id say your probably right any kind of valid market for pure events has never really come to fruition and its more low key events for specific fans of certain music that get together and share the enjoyment of it. So if your looking for events find an appropriate group or groups that reprasent your tastes and im sure you will be made aware of plenty of events. |

Something else. In my case at least. Visiting family with a crappy puter that doesn't run SL. OMG, why would you go there? ![]() Hey the holidays are all about making sacrifices. ![]() |

If this is the case then hopefully traffic isn't suffering just that the promotion is lacking, at least through the SL listing. I'll start looking into groups. |

Well, I just joined SL with 6 other friends & we're having a blast here!! We're all well into adulthood (not the youngsters that I see some complaining about here). We've been online gaming friends for many yrs & usually play MMORPGs & FPS type games. All in the group agreed we needed a change so came here & this is the best move we ever made!
We use the search tool for events & places & tho we've only been playing for a couple of weeks so far (except for 2 that played SL before) we're finding plenty of events to go to. I have trouble every day deciding where to go next cause there's so much to do & see! Of course we don't know how it "used to be" when you had to walk thru 3 feet of snow in SL, uphill both ways against a headwind. I'm posting this here because I've been lurking on the forums & reading how SL is going downhill because less people are playing & the new ones seem to be youngsters from WOW or how no one does things the way they used to. So count 7 new people that aren't pups & that've changed their usual type of game & that plan to be here a long while cause we're having tons of fun! Yeah to you SL veterans it'll never be as good as the "good ole days" - it never is if you're a veteran of any game or even of RL itself. There's always those rose colored glasses to wear while you look back at the past. lol ![]() In the meantime my friends & I are gonna explore & play in every corner of SL that attracts us & we're gonna fly our freak flag whenever & wherever we want to in here. (Getting real interested in the Gorean lifestyle & I might head that direction next.) And I bet there are plenty of other new people similar to us coming in so don't give up hope you old timers! P.S. - Like many others I'll be out of game for a day or two with family over for Christmas but I'll be back as soon as their asses are out the door! |

=) Welcome Maggie and friends! Hope you have a wonderful time exploring!
I suppose this points out that it's all in ones perspective. |

OMG, why would you go there? ![]() Hey the holidays are all about making sacrifices. ![]() Hey, we've got a thread about religion, but I keep telling people, us pagans stopped doing that, even on the holidays. OK, maybe a chicken or two, here or there. But we keep them for the meal later. |

And if so, do you think it's related to the economy or is it part of a natural cycle of high and low traffic. Or something else. More stuff happening within groups for me, but less stuff on the LL event calendar. Some of the musicians I used to follow seemed to disappear (not like they were making real money here) and I drifted from that. If they ever get it to where 30 or 40 can show up and have it function reliably, then maybe real events would take place. A singer could actually 'take home' $ 30 or $ 40, or more, on a night they don't have a RL gig then. Now, maybe 10-15 show up and it is a slightly money making hobby, at best, on a good night. A musician should make at least $ 100-150 in a RL coffee house. But private groups? My problem is all the IMs when I log in for things happening. Some days, three conflicting events. No shortage there. |
