Questions on house and land

Ok I am finally buying my land this week. I have searched high and low and have found 2 suitable 4096 plots for me and my dog. One of the plots has a house already attached, I love that one dearly, its already furnished and has everything I would want. The other is just land, and well L$20,000 cheaper-- tier is 3 Gs more than the one with the house already.

Ok so where is my questions
Here it is:

In your opionon, better to get the more expensive one that I dont have to do a thing to or the cheaper one? (I suck at building, shopping, and with RL requirements, my SL time is limited)

Where can I find traditional EDO style houses (if I don't buy the 1st land), I cannot seem to find any?

And lastly,
Home/parcel security... What do you use on your land? I don't like the looks of the protective barrier thingy. I did happen to see killer bees and a gremlin that follow the intruder around before ejecting them, I thought that was interesting.

Thanks so much for your input

Even if you don't build, you can always buy a house from someone else to put on the land. It doesn't make that much sense to pay more for a plot because of a house, unless it is quite unique and a custom build -- in my opinion.

When looking at land costs, you probably want to pay more attention to the tier cost differential than the one-time price of the land.

There are some good Japanese prefab houses in several designs (and price levels) on the market. If you do a search under "Asian house" you should probably be able to find them.

If you don't want to bother building, and I can see that point, I'd go for door #1. As far as security goes, right now I use locked doors, thats it. The only times I have had tresspassers in my house have been when I neglected to lock them.

Do both plots allow you the same prim allowance? There's a big difference in pricing both ways. I'm assuming you mean 3G's a month tier difference, after 7 months you're paying more for the land without the house but that's a fair way down the line and you won't pay L$20,000 for a house.

Also bear in mind that island pricing will change in a few months which might see tier payments change anyway.

I don't use any security on my land as it's on an island and you need to check covenants before you do add any.

As for whether to buy land with a house on already or not, I would be more interested in the plot and neighbours etc as a house can be bought in any style and take minutes to put up.

20kL is a big difference on a smallish piece of land, is it island or mainland you are looking? You also need to find out if the house etc are transferable as you could find you buy the one with the house at a higher price and they disappear.

Lucky you, all I used is locked doors, but then found folks in the house several times. Pretty easy to get past a locked door by moving your cam inside the house and sitting on something. I came home once to find a noob in the bedroom and watched as he tped in an escort. I ejected both and banned him, then my partner scripted protection for around the bed that sends such intruders home (we have various other places around the property where folks can do that sort of thing recreationally, we just get peeved when someone uses them for business purposes...)

Exactly, and that is why I banned him but not her. I used to have the adjacent lot and it was available for free noob housing, we only asked no business use. (For various reasons it is no longer available). So I've nothing against noobs, and the only place we've added protection is around the bed. We get quite a stream of people stopping by to ride the trains, it is always amazing to see folks walk right by and not even say hello to us, lol.

So far all the "unexpected guests" have left when asked so no escalation was necessary. But i won't hesitate to take necessary action if need be.

Jezabell, I've a 4080 (4096-16 for the tier box) in the SE corner of the Thunderstorm sim I've been trying to get rid of. Tier is due later today and I have no desire to renew it again. If you want that land, it is yours ($24/mo tier). I'd rather give it away than abandon it.

be careful.
there is a guy that has a full time gig selling plots with _no transfer_ houses on them.
there is usually a sign saying 'comes with house blah blah will stay if u want it to'... meaning 'if you never turn auto return on'.
make sure any house is transferable and the land is set to sell object.

You guys have offered such great advice. I just now have to make sure which commitment I will put into it, am I in it for longer than a few months? Well then that would mean that the cheaper tier would be the better value.

And so sweet of Kev, darling, for your offer... I will surely IM you once I leave this office of mine.

BTW the house is a custom build, transferable and very high quality.

THANKS AGAIN!

Ace Albion's houses should be checked out. Search Ace's Spaces.

Buildings are so cheap and plentiful in SL compared to land and tier prices, I would never base any land purchase decision on existing builds. And I would absolutely never consider land worth any more because of existing builds. That's one area where SL is very different from RL.

Many disagree with that, and I totally respect their opinions. But if you're asking for advice, that's mine. --Avion
