For some reason, two people got into an argument in the last thread over something RETARDED and it got closed.

I need to stream my webcam ingame in a quicktime supported format! I downloaded the wirecast demo but I couldn't find a video streaming host.

Anybody have any video streaming host sites?

Does the software come with server software? You could install a server and broadcast from your own machine, although, not sure how well your machine/bandwidth will fare running SL on top of it.

I wouldn't think there's too many freebie sites out there that host streaming video for free, you might consider getting your own server space and setup a streaming server on your own site.

I suspect icecast is a good place to start, it suports video streaming, only thing left is figuring out how to feed the webcam video to the server.

A much cheaper and simpler option is a simple autorefreshing webpage with the lastest image from your webcom, there is a lot of webcam software that can autoupload images and even make the webpage for it, all you need then is a webhost to store the webpage and image and those are very cheap. this works because the media option in SL lets you display webpages too.

Putting

stream webcam into second life

into Google produces

http://librariansmatter.com/blog/2008/06/19/how-to-live-stream-from-your-webcam-into-second-life/

which suggests veodia.com does streaming.

This url
http://www.blogwebcam.com/webcam-hardware/how-to-live-stream-from-your-webcam-into-second-life
also mentions veodia.com .

The next link, is to a story on New World Notes,
http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2008/06/how-to-stream-y.html
and that story links to a youtube video which also suggests Veodia,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaAPwweMACQ

This one also mentions veodia.com:
http://www.teach42.com/2008/06/12/cell_phone_web_cam_second_life_magic/
That one also mentions a way to show either video or your desktop and to stream live video from a cellphone into SL.

Veodia apparently was free at one time but may not be free any more, but the OP doesn't specify free.

Here's an story by Chris Pirillo in response to a question about streaming into, among other places, SL:

I tried Veodia. If you can buy it, I have no idea how. I installed some stupid plugin that lets me record video on my webcam.

One might just possibly be able to find out more information about purchasing Veodia by clicking on the link at the top right of veodia.com labeled "Contact Sales" .

I installed the widget and had a live stream of sorts going into SL in a few minutes. I watched the instructional videos first.

The result displayed in SL was not just the video stream, it was a web page with the video showing on it. Not what I wanted. I don't think I did it right.

The plugin appeared to work properly.

It's also possible that one could click on the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page and be taken to this url:

http://veodia.com/about_contact.html

which could possibly contain this info:

Veodia, Inc.
1825 S. Grant St., Suite 500, San Mateo, CA 94402, USA
Phone: +1 (650) 349-2100 Fax: +1 (650) 349-2101

Email: info@veodia.com
Sales: sales@veodia.com
Support: support@veodia.com
Partners: ipartners@veodia.com

but then again I suppose it's also possible that one couldn't.
