I bought four on-sale tops yesterday. Today, one of them is missing (the folder and all its contents). Key word searches do not show it misfiled. I was cleaning up my inventory last night, so there's a *chance* I deleted, but I think that's unlikely given how clearly it was marked.
I read on the web that one thing to do when inventory is missing (if clearing the cache doesn't work, which it didn't), is to go into the Second Life folder on my computer in Documents and Settings and delete all the contents so that SL is forced to reconstruct it all off its servers. I wanted to run this past people before I try it.

First off, check your trashcan. If you did not specifically empty your trash (has to be done by right-clicking your trashcan and selecting "empty trash" , then your missing items will still be in there, if you accidentally deleted them. On the other hand, the asset servers (where basically everything in the world is stored) have been misbehaving really badly these past few days, running around eating peoples inventory, scratching up the furniture, and pooping on the rug. Ann's link may help you get your missing stuff back, or they may re-appear on their own.

Yes, this is a good thing to do and often works. The real database for your inventory is on SL's servers - it just caches it locally on your computer for convenience. This feature is what makes it possible for you to log your avatar into SL from ANY computer that can run the client. So, deleting the entire SL Application Data folder forces a rebuild of all indexes and settings from the servers. (Yes, you will have to redo all your client settings.) If your items don't reappear, try deleting cache one or two more times over the next couple of days, with a relog between each time. Ann's procedures are great, but most of her list is more preventative ... "good housekeeping to avoid inventory loss" ... than repairing lost items. Though I am lost as to what the spare login to Aditi accomplishes. I don't see one thing on her list that I think can help: before logging out I always detach all HUDs. You never know what sim conditions will be next time you login. Good luck!

also make sure you are checking on the proper tab
Not recent items, but the other inventory tab... so it will show all item
(a common mistake for anyone who uses the recent items tab)

Though I am lost as to what the spare login to Aditi accomplishes. It forces some sort of full fetch. The procedure is actually buried in the knowledge base so it is a quasi official missing inventory resolution step. I am a database person so I shudder to consider the "why" of this step doing any good.

By what I understand, Aditi's asset servers are separate from Agni's servers (at least at the database level). Aditi's asset database has all the same assets as Agni's database. The reason the login to Aditi works may be because it causes your local cache to be updated off of Aditi's database (which will likely contain the assets gone missing from Agni). Then, when you log back into Agni, your local cache updates Agni's database and makes the asset "re-appear".

This seems so silly but will throw it out there because it actually did happen to a friend of mine. Most of her inventory was gone for 2 days; she'd been doing all the obvious, following (she thought) instructions on the website, etc; only to realize she'd been clearing the 'wrong' cache. There's 2 caches, one is a browser cache, you don't care about that one, it's the other one under the Network tab you want to be clearing. (Edit/Preferences/Network/Clear Cache. When she cleared the right cache, her inventory all came back. So just be sure you're clearing the right one.

I don't understand half of what's on Ann's link. starting with "I will delete the old roaming SL folder." My SL folder doesn't roam. What does "I will uninstall the old viewer" mean? What old viewer? What is a "new client run as adminstrator"? Good grief.

Yes, I was clearing the network cache, ty.
I deleted all the SL folders on my computer and it did not bring back the missing inventory folder.
Oh, and yes, I had emptied my trash so the folder can't be in there now.
