I have had very poor experience using Paypal in the past, and would not consider trying to use Paypal again. I need to find an alternative method or service for the deposit and withdrawal of Lindens. - any suggestions?

there currently is no alternative unless your dealing with US $1000 or more in which case you can file a support request for a wire transfer although I think there's a fee (US$50 I think) for that.

Some of the third party sites allow other options I belive but most are Payapal only and whether you use paypal or anything else you get a worse deal using them over LL since LL offers a much better rate.

Edit: I'd rather not change my post above but see Phil Deakin's post below which has the correct numbers on the limits.

It's US$10,000, not US$1000, and it's a US$100 fee, not US$50.

Thanks for the corrections. Considering that I was pulling those numbers from the top of my head after last reading them quite some time ago I wasn't off by that much though :)

You may ask for wire transfer specifing your "problem", the fees will be %1 of the withdrawn amount or $100 past of $10.000 USD.
Note that is not mandatory for Linden Lab to do so, if the amount is less than $10.000 (if paypal *IS* active in your country), your request is reviewed and then (eventually) approved or even refused.. a generic "i had problems with paypal" won't be a good reason to ask for a wire transfer in example.

PS: this is the standard procedure (and approved by default) when Paypal is *NOT* active into your country.

well here is my question regarding the processing of credits.
Why does it take 5-7 business days? is there an army of people at LL who painstakingly search though each process request to verify they are real? or is it done automatically by computer after a built in delay time has passed so that LL can make some extra interest off your money while it sits in their account?

how much interest would LL make by holding on to every processed credit for an extra week?
and why are they able to process payments made to them so quickly?

Unfortunately, wire transfer is not approved by default if you are not from the US or Western Europe. I am trying to convince Lindens to approve wire transfer to my Visa Classic account because we do not have PayPal here. Trying it for 3 weeks already, for no effect. The irony is that people from US and Western Europe have PayPal and do not need wire transfer. :)

Sorry i didn't got it, Paypal permitt payments to your country? If not then LL will wire transfer em, it's pretty obvious since the methods are two, and if one of em isn't available for your contry then only the other remains. You need a bank account indeed (SWIFT + IBAN).

Here's from the doc page:

-
Note: You should only use the bank wire option under the following circumstances:

PayPal will not permit payments to your country
You're expecting payment of $10,000 or more
-

And here's the instructions:

https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=4583

...along with the note:

In cases where PayPal does not allow payments to be sent to your location, we will deduct a 1% fee for wires sent.

I'd love to agree with you, but wire transfer request ticket form requires filling out ABA, IBAN, and SWIFT numbers. All three at once. Which is obviously impossible, since ABA is used only in the US, and IBAN only in some European and Middle East countries. I am in the process of talking to support now.. for weeks already. Can only hope that the problem will be noticed and corrected sooner than later. Right now requesting wire transfer outside US/Europe is just not working.

Whenever i have been paied for other purpose: you need to provide the relevant informations to have a wire transfer, so it's not mandatory wich information you provides, but they need to be enough to make a wire transfer (indeed).
SWIFT + Account Number and Name provides all the required informations to make worldwide wire transfer (ABA is used only to route the wire within the USA and you don't need to provide it, since you are not a USA bank account holder).

I know it. :) But some employees of LL billing department do not, or that's how it looks like.
