That much RL money could be a down payment on a new car.
Do some islands really cost that much?

Way over priced! For that price, consider buying an island. Check out the prices and see what 1200 buys you. Better yet, buy a "used" sim and you may find it less. Shop around and do your homework. I agree with the other post, it's a rl house payment or car payment.

No ya know what you do with the 1200?
If you have a ride now, put some phat-azzed rims on it.
Imagine the look of delight when your spouse sees them.
If he/she gets mad, just explain that you want to be rollin' hard wit da raza, your spouse will understand.

OK kidding, I know my spouse would end my life if I did that.

As much as I love the mainland, I certainly would not use the word "investment" in relation to buying land in SL. The market is notoriously fickle. Is it in one of the double-prim sims? Those tend to go for a lot more money. If you're buying land, do it for your own enjoyment, not because you think you're going to make money on it someday.

You could probably pick up an entire used island from someone for less than $1200 - but you'll get hit really hard in monthly tier fees if you do that.

That is almost half a sim of what had better be protected water land. In the old days, the answer would be no - because a full protected water sim would go for about $3000 - $3500 at AUCTION. These days.... who knows. I wouldn't part with that much money and honestly, if I hit the lottery and got the $207M MegaMillions jackpot, I wouldn't invest another dime in SL. Granted, I am already a large landholder, and I feel that I have enough.

Sorry to disappoint you, but im gunna win that!! =P

On topic, that's a heck of a lot of cash for a parcel!! I suppose its all in the eye of the beholder though. I think that if you decided to come here and ask, you may all ready know the answer. =)

Considering I got nearly $US200 for a 512 parcel one day.
(I had it set at 99.99L/sqM and some idiot bought it. :-)))
That sounds like a bargain.

Just had to let that out. Take Lula's advice I reckon.

That sounds really high even for spectacular land. There are a few sims that pull in the big bucks, but that's only a very small hand full. Which sim is this? It would be much easier to answer if we knew which sim it was since prices vary so much from sim to sim.

It is Mokualii, I just had a look at it.....it's seems an outrageous price, it is a large parcel but I wouldn't pay that for a piece of land that size.

11.6L$/m

11.6L$/m For land sandwiched between a river and a road with some rather rare "mainland islands" isn't crazy is it? The average is what 6? (according to Jack) I think if anyone looked at it and factored in some of the features of this plot they would say it wasn't "average".

My and other parcels in Nautilus at 34l/m or south islandia 11.5l/m cause no threads or eye-lash batting, kinda strange.

Anyway, cheers for the big red finger pointing at my land sales, much appreciated.

Actually, I'm fairly certain that most Residents think the prices paid for and being asked today for parcels in Nautilus and Bay City are completely insane. But I guess it is like trying to get an apartment in downtown Tokyo. If that is where you really NEED to be, you'll pay any price, no matter how insane. I wouldn't, myself, but some people might.

Only once, back when land prices in general were MUCH higher, I paid L$30 per M2 for a parcel. But it was a 2048 M2 parcel directly East of a 4096 M2 that I was living on, and I wanted the extra prim count badly, and wanted to stop having bad neighbors buying that smaller parcel and blocking a beautiful ocean sunset view for me. The price was too high, but it was more or less worth it, to get the extra prims and better view.

I believe when they said, "used sim", its someone that owns a private estate region, and is selling it to another party. These are advertised in forums as well as the concierge support group, which I cannot recall the name of it at the moment.

To some people, Yes. To other people, No. Truthfully only you can decide what is worth your dollars.
