The official LL viewer is known to have a memory leak and is really noticible (lots of crashes) if you don't have a lot of RAM in your computer. Try the Nicolaz viewer (it's a patch for the official viewer that fixes the memory leak and a bunch of other things as well)... http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/If it fixes the problem then great, if not at least you can rule out the memory leak as the cause.

Have you tried manually deleting the SL Application Data folder? Clearing cache doesn't get rid of everything in there and sometimes corrupted data can lead to crashing. For XP, it's located at C:\Documents and Settings\'User Name'\Application Data\SecondLife. Application Data is normally a hidden file, so you may need to unhide it first.

After you have uninstalled SL, use xp search and look in the hidden folders for secondlife, then delete anything you find, then reinstall SL. I do this anytime there is a new viewer and have very few problems with SL, also defrag your hard drive can help. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Delete the sl cache directly from your hard drive. Defrag, play for one hour if you can stay in then defrag again. It helps immensly
