Today I finallly switched to Windlight. The presence of a Nicholaz version was the catalyst I needed. Nicholaz-U is quite nice indeed! I don't see any of the lighting problems some of you have reported, and so far not a single incidence of headgear rectosis upon TP .
Now this evening I see big rectangular shadows on the ground all over my home sim. I may be unobservant, but I didn't THINK the shadows showed up right away when I used the new viewer - the way I remember it I started using the new viewer this morning and the shadows didn't show until this evening. Maybe I'm wrong about that part. After a while I noticed the shadows even show on the Mini-Map.
Does anyone else have these? Can/will anyone tell me what they are?
At first I thought they were supposed to be the shadows of skyboxes, but my own skybox doesn't seem to be represented.
*shrug*
If you can't or won't tell me what the shadows are you may of course simply resort to criticizing ME, per standard forum procedure.

Dayum... dont' make me insult MYSELF!
Ok....
Drivin ... your face scares small children, you smell like a sweaty football team of billygoats whizzing on a smoldering skunk, and you walk like a capybara with bunions.
So there.

Can you give us a screenshot? The thing about them showing up on the mini-map makes me think they must be prims. If someone put out megaprims, they show on the mini-map as if they are whole, but many are actually cut and manipulated in various ways. I guess the best way to start diagnosing this is to establish whether the problem is in your client or not. Go back with a different client (like the non-windlight one) and see if you still see the shadows, and also to ask others if they see them as well.

Are you perhaps talking about the drop-shadows from the chevrons that have replaced the T icons on the mini-map?

Um, I got all excited when I read this, but unfortunately Nich hasn't done a Windlight viewer yet... The -U and -V are both for the regular release and complains when I tried it with Windlight anyway, LOL! I can't wait to get back to a friends list that can be taller than wide and IM windows that can be wider than tall and not block half the screen! Maybe try right-clicking them to edit or inspect them? Then you can see a name and/or creator at least. (/me guesses they are prims or they wouldn't show on the minimap as well?)

Sorry - I thought 1.18.5(3) was Windlight(?). It has those little "v"s on the map that people love to crab about in connection with Windlight. Anyway, Nich-U required 1.18.5(3), so I put 2 'n 2 together ... and got somethign esle. So ... I like the -U release whatever it is. Thanks for the ideas. The big shadowy rectangles disappeared later in the day. Maybe it somebody griefing... *shrug*
