I can't help but laugh but I also do need an answer to this problem. My bf bought a cool new helicopter and put it in the yard then went to bed. Last thing he said was have fun with the new toy. UMMM OK! lol So I hop in the helicopter and off I go. Somewhere in the radius of 100 miles of our place I was flying along and my internet connection died. Was out for about 20 minutes. When I returned I was home but the helicopter wasn't. I went flying around and grabbed a 4 wheeler and went looking. All the traditional ways but I can't find his helicopter. Now someone probably has something they don't want and I am missing something I do want LOL Any solutions? Thanks in advance! This forum is so awesome!

Vehicles of any description are problematic in SL because they can easily go awry, disappear or generally just malfunction on sim crossings and certainly as a result of crashes. They tend to be copy for this reason.

I wouldn't worry if I were you: your boyfriend only needs to rez another copy. If the 'copter isn't copy you should shoot the creator.

Hi BabySweets,

It's happened to us all - especially at sim crossings. Most vehicles are copy for that very reason, so first check your inventory and see if you still have a helicopter in there. If it wasn't copy (unlikely, but you never know in these cryolife days), check your Lost and Found just in case it's already back and you missed the notification.

If none of the above applies, you could try asking the owner of the parcel where you crashed if he/she can see it on the parcel.

Hope this helps, but if not, you could try looking for it with a locator. Don't go paying big bucks for it though as there are freebie locators out there.

And never buy a non-copy vehicle.

ETA: sorry, I've read it properly now, LOL. Ask your boyfriend to check his inventory, etc

LOL thanks guys!! I knew I'd get the answers here. I wondered if maybe it's in his lost and found. No more flying for me it's just too risky. Thanks heaps!!

You can also use the mini map to find things you own.

Get in the right general area, open your mini map, look for things coloured light blue, thats something of yours.

Anything dark grey belongs to other people, and group owned is purple if I recall correctly.

There are sensor-based scanners that can look for particular objects in the vicinity by name, owner, etc., but in this case you're probably looking for something that's not there: It's probably already in his Lost&Found, as you mentioned. If it turns out not to be there, and really is no-copy... well, you can use such tools to go looking for it, but it will eventually get permanently lost anyway: vehicles really need to be copiable unless they're just for ornamentation.

Wow I had no idea about this. I thought the light blue only showed my land, not my objects, thanks! Still learning!

When my vehicles vanish, if they don't go off-world and turn up in my lost and found, they are often to be found at <0,0,0> (or as near as they can get to it) on the sim they were last seen trying to leave.

When I first started in SL, on maybe my second day I was playing in a freebie car. I was having a great time zipping all over. At one point I hit a bump, went flying thru the air and as I came down a house rezzed around me. The car was stuck in teh house and nothing I could do would free it. I couldn't move it, couldn't take it, couldn't move it in any way. It was about two weeks before the owner of the house came on and returned it. I still have the screenshot I took of me looking at my little red sports car stuck thru the wall of a house.
