Your Guess for Top 10 SL Halloween Costumes?

It's Friday where I am, so:

It's become conventional wisdom in recent years* that Halloween is no longer a children's holiday, really---it's a chance for adults to go a little wild. And as many have noted, the main way this manifests for females is that wonderful once-a-year chance to dress in Slut, Tart, Naughty-Nurse (or what-have-you), Hooker, BDSM fashion.

But EVERY day in SL is Slut, Tart, Hooker, BDSM day for those running female avatars (for the majority, anyway).

So I'm wondering: if Halloween is a chance to present yourself differently than you do 'every day'....

...how does that manifest in SL? (Though I was in SL in October 2008, I wasn't around on Halloween, and so am curious about what I'll see THIS Halloween.)

If the principle 'be different than you are every other day' holds, then my guess for the top 10 female Second Life Halloween costumes would be:

10. Well-Behaved, Conservative Nurse
9. Flat-Chested Barmaid Wearing Corduroy Slacks and Work Shirt
8. Amish Pirate Wench
7. Republican National Committee Member Vampire
6. Sports Massage (ONLY) Therapist
5. Eleanor Roosevelt
4. Little Red Riding Hood in a polyester pantsuit
3. Rachel Maddow
2. AARP Witch
and of course the #1 SL Female-Avatar Costume for Halloween 2009: Lunch Lady

But...I could be wrong.

What are your guesses?

*(at least in the USA--and I'm wondering if this is true of other nations)

[I respect both Eleanor and Rachel, but you can't exactly picture either of them in a bustier and fishnets, can you?]

It is a nice point as to whether one would prefer to witness the ecdysiast talents of Monsieur GHW Bush or Monsieur GW Bush. I know you didn't offer that choice, but one can't help thinking of it.

And I notice that that one particular severed head makes two appearances.

But over all, an impressive list of guesses!

1 - 10: Noobs from Inventory Library

Library only. Not even a Help Island freebie! And definitely no AO.

I think you've got a rather brilliant idea there: Just think of how crash-free we'd be.

We'd have to express our personalities verbally. That might be a nice challenge!

If the challenge was considered 'boring'...
There could be options to mix & match and accessorise from the Library.
Library objects could be shruken down to make things like hats and jewellery.
... a "Best in Library" competition.

In SL? Seems a number of the Lindens are sporting pirated infringements from various movies (like Hellraiser or Casper) this year sending a bold statement that LL approves of IP infringement.

Oh and be sure to check out the gore and dismemberment display in the PG sim cornfield 2. I guess that is supposed to be from children of the corn or something.

No, in the UK Halloween is still 'becoming' a kids celebration.
We have fireworks night on the 5th November, which has always been a bigger event. Such as Halloween was celebrated it was as part of a fireworks party.
Because of advertising and marketing from the US - and China, etc. that actually make all the 'spooky' rubbish that fills the shops - Halloween has been pushed here for several years. According to the news (well, GMTV, anyway) the British spend on Halloween has increased 20-fold in the past 8 years. This is still as a kid's event though. Adults don't need an excuse to party!

10 - Marilyn Monroe
9 - Ferret Girl (lots of us are after Argent)
8 - Barbie (complete with fixed smile and plastic skin)
7 - Mermaid
6 - Pirate Wench
5 - Agatha Heterodyne (lots of us are after Desmond, too)
4 - Ruth (nostalgia craze)
3 - Hamsterette (not a few are after Raymond)
2 - Slut (sluttier than normal, I mean...there's a big crowd who haven't got their Trout Ratings)

And in the top spot, the Number 1 Halloween costume this year will be...

1 - Amorphous Cloud of Mist

I found a really well-made Frankenstein avatar, and my g/f managed a nice Bride of Frankenstein getup. So, now we can wander around like that, but then we get bored of it and go back to normal. We were going to do smurfs, but the one place we found, the only available "tiny" version of smurfette didn't look how we liked. We're looking at masquerade masks also, there are some nice ones in SL.

No. Bette Davis has no inworld equivalent.

(Joan Crawford tried, but failed.)

Very interesting--and scary (!) to think how much any culture is shaped by marketing.

Another really excellent idea.

Sometimes an even playing field (such as being limited in the ways you suggested) can inspire the most creative responses...
