I'm not sure of the timing but in addition to having to wait in a sea of grayness while textures load, the prevalence of sculpted prims, coupled with changes in the priority system, now cause one to see a lot of deformed geometry while waiting for sculpt maps to load.
Again not sure of the timing, but the independent slboutique, umm, onrez, that is, and slexchange have vanished, with xstreet sl now being the LL operated web based SL shopping system. _____________________

Overall, if you have the machine to support it, the world is prettier, but it takes much more memory and cpu and graphics to power it all. LL has become less responsive, gambling and inworld banking have gone away, adult activity of any sort is about to be shunned to the farthest reaches of the grid and these forums are going to be replaced as well.
Welcome back. _____________________

70 thousand log ins is normal.
Ad farms have gone the way of the dodo. Adult content is quarantined, or soon will be. Really, less technical issues in spite of the griping you may hear in the forums. Bots used to inflate traffic are disallowed, but that is not yet enforced. 7 or 8 continents instead 4. I lose track. These forums may go the way of the dodo as well, but that could be speculation. Land prices plummeted. In my opinion - both good and bad, but it averages out to sort of good. _____________________

From a technical /stability standpoint SL has improved, while from a business/customer service /communication standpoint, LL has not.

I did the same as you, stayed away for over a year as the viewer moved way ahead of my machine's ability to handle it.
The first thing I noticed is all my clothes were out of style! No joke. Textures seem way better and shoes are like a whole other world now. Resizeable! among other things. |

With the new release candidate viewer, I now have garish pixellated terrain to add to grayness and unrezzed sculpts.

oh my gosh, SLExchange is gone!? I used to love shopping on that site!
So, they are removing these forums and replacing them with blog-like ones? Where is the new one I have been hearing about? |

I noticed that the graphics seem a little more intense. It took some configuring to make it run the way it used to.
And yeah, like Madonna I had to reinvent myself as all of my clothing was outdated. A friend recently told me that instead of wrinkles and gray hair in SL, you become aged by the skins you wear. |

Slexchange had renamed itself to xstreetsl a while back, then LL bought it, so basically the same function and appearance is still around, just owned by LL instead of Apothus and Anshe and whatnot.
The shopping still seems to be about the same to me. Xstreetsl.com. _____________________

I saw that myself for the first time last night, and after getting it couldn't shake it despite TPing several times (it popped up while I was shopping for a new Neko-skin, which I am still seeking). Haven't logged in since though - wondering if this is something related to new issues, or just an oddball glitch. |

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I'm curious as to what has changed in the past year. I've gone from being a very vocal supporter of both LL and SL to being one of the more cynical people around. Not sure that really effects you, though... _____________________

Windlight is now the norm, we now have a new CEO and since he's taken over no progress has been made except for shunning adult content (yet more freekin policies to adhere to) , it appears that SL may finally fold or be run into the ground before someone else buys it off LL and sorts it out.
Progress on Windlight halted the day the new CEO took over and we STILL cannot share sky/water settings, no technological progress has (or ever will be the looks of it) been made. I do hope this changes as i do like SL |
