I am thinking about moving here from IMVU and I am trying to figure out ways I can earn Lindens so that I can make clothes on here instead~ I know on IMVU there is a forum where you are able to sell your artwork- but I don't see one here? Can someone help me if I am just overlooking it?

I don't know if there is really an artist community here... D:

Hi Infra and welcome.

I'm not familiar with IMVU, so I'm sorry if my answers don't really address your questions. I'll take a stab at it though. :p

There is an large art community here. You can sell and display your art in galleries or in storefronts. Or, you can list it on xstreet, a website where items can be purchased for sale and delivered to your inworld account.

Here is a link to xstreet
https://www.xstreetsl.com/
There are instructions there that will explain how to list your content for sale there.

For original artwork you will probably have better luck selling inworld. As Persephone said, don't be afraid to use inworld search. My guess is that it is likely you can find a gallery for new players that will display your work for free. Once you have an exhibition or works for sale you can announce those things in the classified sub forums here.

In any case, you will have to upload your work into Second Life as a texture, in order to sell it inworld or through xstreet, at a cost of L$10 per upload. You can then apply it to a prim, and, if you want, add a frame. You'll need to learn about object permissions before you begin selling.

There is also a very active community of Second Life users on Flickr. That would probably be a good place to network with other artists.

I hope that helps at least a little. :o

If I am understanding your post correctly, if you are interesting making clothes, you might also make $L by selling them.

Oh - and yes there is a huge artist community here.

I wondered about that too, maybe starting with clothes if that is what you really want to do.

Another option would be to create textures, which people in SL buy to apply to their own creations. Does IMVU have a texture market, or are items all sold with textures applied? In SL, high quality, original textures, particularly those that tile seamlessly, are always in demand.

Hi. Selling things in SL is very different to IMVU - you have a lot more control over things here, you don't need to use an existing base in the same way as IMVU.

I recommend checking out https://www.xstreetsl.com/

Here you will see the sorts of things being made and sold in Second Life. Obviously the quality varies vastly, but you should be able to get more of an idea of the types of items, the standards needed to earn money doing it and the amazing breadth and imagination of Second Life artists.

If you would like to message me in-game anytime, I would be happy to chat with you - or anyone else who is looking to start creating in Second Life and has any questions. I am not a great expert or anything, hehe, but have run a succesful, profitable business here for four and a half years and have experience of many different aspects of SL retail. I was lucky to have lots of good advice when I started out, and love the opportunity to help others if I can :-)
