Hi,
Is it possible to send an IM message to someone when I don't have access to my client machine...like an e-mail...or something?
Thanks,
Spirit

From: Spirit Landar Hi, Is it possible to send an IM message to someone when I don't have access to my client machine...like an e-mail...or something? Thanks, Spirit If you have received an offline IM from them in the past 1-2 days, you can usually respond to that and it will get to them inworld.

Spirit Yep. When I get IM's sent to my e-mail address, I can respond back to it (Just hit reply) and the person will get it in world.

I THINK I knew that...but what I really need to be able to do, is send an IM to someone who hasn't sent me one recently.
Sometimes I can't get to a computer with a client and get inworld.
Of course, all I have is their NAME...no other kind of address.

There are inworld objects that you can buy that allow you to do this, *but* the receipients do not get an IM from you, they get an IM from the object saying it's from you. They can't reply to this like a normal IM, and it shows up in green text because it is from an object. These products often need to be set up first, so that they have some way to cross-reference people so they can find them.
There is also a lightweight client now, I think it is called SLIM that you can download from the SL first-look download page. It relies on voicechat but once it is set up, I think it lets you do IMs as well.

Yeah, well, sadly, unless someone here offers to do it for you, you're kinda stuck.
You *could* try ajaxlife dot net but it hasn't been working for me today.

Thanks for the feedback...I think I knew it wasn't going to be easy....possible...but I knew that if it was, you folks would know.
You always do.
Thank you,

You can also use Zonkster.com , but you will need to sign up in world first to get a key to use at the website. There is a Zonkster cube on the freebie shelf at the Forum Cartel Hangout in Allana; if you touch that you will get a key you can use any time at Zonkster.com.
Ajaxlife.net is another possibility - it is a web client that actually logs you in to SL (you need to give it your SL password, which some may not be comfy doing) and your avatar will be visible in world even though you will not be able to see anything. But you can use local chat, IM, and some limited inventory functions.

From: Madhu Maruti You can also use Zonkster.com , but you will need to sign up in world first to get a key to use at the website. You can use zonkster without the key but the IM is delivered as unverified since anyone could use your name. If you have the key they can verify that it's you sending the message.
