I run a mixed martial arts group called the RAGE Fighting Championships, which has been a tremendous success so far. My group is at 350 members and grows every day. I have a great group of members, but I recently had a falling out with a person and had to eject her and ban her from my land. The problem is, I like to keep my group open and free for anyone to enroll, and this person keeps coming back in and trolling my group chat. She sends out insults to me and my members, among other stupid crap. It can be really disruptive, and I don't want my more casual members being forced to leave the group due to the uncontrolled spam.
2 questions.
- Is her behavior abuse reportable? - When my members close the chat window, will the messages stop popping up for that session?
Thanks

Answer to both questions is "yes". Well, you can AR anything, of course, but this might actually result in disciplinary measures, just because LL knows there's currently no practical group controls available, so there's no other way to control the harassment. And, at least on every recent viewer I've used, closing a group chat means no more from that group for that login session--which is not always exactly desirable. Also note that individual members can mute the offender, letting them continue with group chat as normal. But this takes a level of average member sophistication that would be rare in most groups. I've had to close groups because of this. It really sucks. [ETA: See https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-692 for a problem that can sometimes prevent the closed group chat from staying closed, for some viewers, some of the time, maybe. And see also https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-753 for one of the feature requests to be able to better manage membership of open groups.]

Some groups I've belonged to have temporarily shifted to membership by invitation only to avoid problems like this.
The troublemaker will generally go away in a few weeks.

Thanks for the response. I plan on getting my group members to AR her every time this happens. Hopefully it works. From: Qie Niangao Answer to both questions is "yes". The troublemaker will generally go away in a few weeks. The "membership by invitation" only works if you know who the alts are. In this case, I suspect the alts can be as sweet as pie and then turn as soon as they are in the group. I'm afraid there is really nothing that can be done with the exception of the AR. I am a member of this group BTW and I usually just close the chat window and that ends that. Sorry, JulieAnne

Sorry, JulieAnne That is when you screen the alts before you give them an invite. Don't invite those created in the past two weeks or with no groups/profile pic/ picks.

lol yeah. This particular person is an alt of a former problematic memeber to begin with. I think this is a career of hers. I've cleaned out all of her known alts already, and have my group set to invite only, which I REALLY hate doing. It burns me up to think this is exactly what she is trying to get me to do. My group was growing at 20 new members a week minimum before this. Also, Hey Julie! Haven't seen you 'round the gym lately. Do you have any products that you sell? If so, you might want to think about charging L$100 or so to enter the group but giving members a discount on products so they can recover that cost.
Somebody making disposable alts to grief the group will be less likely to fork over L$, even a small amount, while 'real' people won't have much of a problem with it. And you can still always (I think) manually invite people to the group to get around the fee.

From: Royce Boa Also, Hey Julie! Haven't seen you 'round the gym lately.
After that last beating you gave me, I'm still trying to heal (my ego that is)! Yeah, I realy have to make some time for it. I do appreciate how fast the group as grown and all the work that you put into it. Thanks, JulieAnne
