In the past few days I have noticed that I lock up more frequently than normal and that the longer I am logged into SL the more I lock up. A relog will resolve it then, once again, the lock ups progress in frequency and severity as I stay logged on.
Over the weekend I locked up every time I moved my camera with arrow keys or mouse alt. Three of my friends are experiencing the same problem, and one has a new powerful PC.
The lock ups eventually become so severe that I am totally frozen with SL unresponsive, and can be resolved only by logging out which is like having an unreported, unregistered crash. Logging out then takes several minutes, sometimes as many as 5 minutes, then my account is still logging out for several minutes when I try to log back in.
That is how I spent my weekend in SL, and today so far the problems seem to be contining. I noticed this problem, to this degree of severity, following the last rolling restart that I think was done on Friday.
Someone mentioned there may be a new memory issue with SL because the problem is cured by log out and then grows progressively worse when logged back in.
Anyone else having this problem or know what is causing this?

recently.... (The past week or so)...hmm.. aside from the sim crash I didn't 'lock up' except once.. and I've crashed out I think 5 times in that same 7 days.... Its been alot worse than this for me (As in literally 12 times in a row), and... I'm also currently lagging as badly as I was not too long ago... maybe my internet just got a little better...
Oh, and I'm online a ton ^^ I spend all my free time in SL so I've had lots of time to crash if it was gonna happen. Sometimes though I get it where my clothes aren't rendering for me anymore, only unrendering if I take them off, even if I tp someplace else. SO, then I reboot SL ^^

Occasionally I get a freezeup where I have to manually shut down the computer, yesterday I locked up and the machine rebootd itself, which was a bit odd.

Sounds like your computer might've had a problem, not SL if it rebooted itself... but I could be wrong >.>

I have locked up like this only maybe twice in the last month, but am spending fewer and shorter periods of time in SL.
The fact that this gets progressivly worse for you makes me wonder if its related to your computer overheating after longer periods of time in SL. I have noticed that my lag and tendency to lock up are higher when my laptop is hot. This happens most often when I'm exploring, downloading lots of textures and shapes to the client. I've heard that its the graphic card that overheats the most. Once person tells me they have had to replace thier graphics card almost once each year from overheating!!
Try putting a small fan near your computer to increase the airflow around it, make sure there is plenty of room around the case for air flow.

There is some maintenance like defragging your harddrive that could help you. I think what is happening is some kind of a bottleneck of information. I noticed that my radio streaming also stopped during the quick momentary freezes. Much of the time, they shake themselves after about 30 seconds.

From: Brenda Connolly Could be, it's time for a cleaning and an reinstall. Ive had the same problem this weekend too and I believe Brenda is right. Now that there are no more mandatory updates its easy to forget and just keep plugging away with a bogged down client. Ill try the newest update. I had been using the RC viewer. Maybe ill try that too.

In the past month, one sim crash, one SL infrastructure crash that crashed me, and one legit client crash.

Almost off-the charts slutty. Shame on you and congratulations. -- Trout

From: DaQbet Kish and I believe Brenda is right.. Actually I was referring to an OS reinstall, but please feel free to say that line as frequently as possible....

It seems less for me, although last night there was one particular sim that hated me. It crashed me to the point I had to restart the computer. I couldn't even use Ctrl-Alt-Del to shut down SL.

I have to say, after upgrading from 1GB to 2GB of RAM, I haven't locked up in a long time....it really helped. But I also *always* monitor the temperature of everything in my PC because I'm a control freak.... (Speedfan is quite a good free programme for that)

I don't lock up any more, but I seem to crash about once every one to two hours. I'm using the Nicholaz -s release.

It used to get very warm to the touch; now it's always nice and cool, and everything including SL runs much more smoothly.

I was going to say no, but now that I think of it, I don't know. The sim was almost empty, certainly not enough people to cause a problem. The only thing I was doing on the sim was going to a shop I like there, and I really don't know what else is on the sim. The shop itself is fairly small so I guess there's plenty of room for some club or something else that I didn't see messing things up. I was with someone else and that person didn't crash, so I figured it was just me. I tried to go back a couple hours later and had the same crash. Luckily the shop has a second location, so I went there and had no problems. I'd hate for them to not be able to take my money

OMG I thought it was just ME! I am freezing my ass off! LOL
Seriousely-- nearly once every hour. It's bad. I have a good graphics card: nVidia Quadro with 512MB memory. The computer has Duo Core processors and 1.5GB RAM. I don't know why this is happenning!

I've been using one to cool down my computer for quite a while now-my "home office" gets really hot in summer and that makes the poor puter running its fan in overdrive sometimes. Mine has got ventilation openings at the front though, as well, so I'm NOT driving the internal fans crazy, I'm just giving them more fresh air to whirl around with my purpose-bought desktop fan.

From: Colette Meiji Thats cause its November!! Unless one lives in my state...then it's just...less hot. Anyway...the past week or so this weird thing has been happening to my AV when I first log into home, and sometimes stand up or hop off a pose ball - which is I start this spinning thing that doesn't stop until I tp out and back or fly (although I'm already suspended in the air) and stop. Was starting to wonder if it was some griefing thing...but it's sporadic. Only started the last 2 weeks though.
