I looked around some of the Burning Life sims yesterday - there seemed to be a lot of empty space. I wasn't around this time last year, so please could anyone recommend what should not be missed in Burning Life? What did you like and what do you think about this fest?

I saw the notice upon logging into SL a few days ago & like you found mostly empty places when I visited a few burning life related places.
Wonder if they all go home before us Brit's log on? ![]() |

I'm in the US, and it's really empty when I get there, so don't think it's a time zone thing. I was confused on what I was looking for...
What controversy? (wait.. dont tell me.. maybe its cool I'm in my own lil world and dont know) _____________________

What controversy? (wait.. dont tell me.. maybe its cool I'm in my own lil world and dont know) I'd like to know that too. I didn't go last year so can't compare, but I'm lovin' it this year. There have been some good concerts so far and I'm always fascinated by what people can create in SL. |

What controversy? (wait.. dont tell me.. maybe its cool I'm in my own lil world and dont know) Conflicts between SL artists and the person manageing Bl this year, and an issue with the moving/censoring of a piece of artwork. Mari _____________________

I've been to Burning Life quite a lot, including an amazing trance party in Skylar sim.
There is a lot worth seeing but one needs to do a lot of walking or flying to see everything. I even experienced a multiplying cube griefer attack which brought everyone together as we all tried to get the name of the owner. One of the Lindens was about and the offender was dealt with very quickly - like 10 mins after the atack they had been removed from database an expelled from SL. _____________________

If it was a big phallus, maybe I can understand that LOL. Are they trying to keep it PG? Burning Man is a pretty adult venue so censorship of the SL version isn't in keeping with the spirit of the real world event. |

That's a shame about the censorship.
I really enjoyed the one last year. Some great builds. I've been twice and crashed both times...I will try again tonight! ~Ari _____________________

I'd wandered around a wee bit earlier, but I'm not home enough right now to do major exploring. Some builds are really neat and some are... well, I'd expect it'd be exactly like the Burning Man in RL

I have a site at Burning Life 2007 and it's fairly quiet. I do see a steady stream of people wandering around. As for the drama, I kept my head down and just got on with doing my thing. It's a shame that Isis and Vicero removed their builds but such is (Second) life. I really liked Isis's biomech installation. Maybe she'll set up something similar on her land for all to see.

Why in the world would they put any of Burning Life on a PG sim? Just plain stupid. Make the whole thing mature and censorship goes away.

From the article...
09-27-2007 12:29
"Lambert went on to strongly disassociate Burning Life from Burning Man, asserting that this was a Linden Lab event, rather than a community event and as such had rigid rules that had to be adhered to."
So...then why have it the same month as Burning Man? Why have it themed after Burning Man, on the playa and burning the effigy on the last night? Why have it so closely designed to be like Burning Man that's it's obvious that they're trying to copy the RL event...with the exception of LL's censorship? If they want to "strongly disassociate" BL from BM, then they need to do a better job of doing so. |

Nope. Not even considering going.

As a general rule, I stay away from any widely publicized "mega events" like Burning Life. If they are at all as popular as the event sponsors hope for, the area will be so overpopulated that the lag will take any fun out of it for me. And if not, well... what's wrong? Catch-22. If it's great, it's laggy, and therefore sucks. If it sucks to begin with, well, it still sucks.
Sam goes for any of the big in-world "Town Hall Meetings". There's no point in my attending such gatherings, as I can't move or interact when there's 40+ people around. Maybe when I finally get a computer with a far better video card than I have now... But not until then. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Conflicts between SL artists and the person manageing Bl this year, and an issue with the moving/censoring of a piece of artwork. As for the censorship, I think a little "managed communication" would have gone a long way to smoothing that over, without impugning the intent of the organizers or the Lindens. But, endgame, I wouldn't really expect much demand for PG sims in BL08; I'd just chalk it up to "lessons learned." |

Burning Life is burnt out
09-27-2007 18:06
After returning from the Black Rock desert and Burning Man event this year I was extremely enthusiastic about the potential for amazing builds from some of the more creative folks here in SL at Burning Life. I participated in Burning Life last year, and enjoyed many wonderful, creative projects some of the best builders in SL could create. This year I was sorely disappointed at the lack of participation by the talented builders here in SL. I flew through sims filled with poorly made, unimaginitive beginners creations, and self promotions. Frankly, most of it looked more like an SL junkyard than the flight of imagination it should have been. I'd like to make a suggestion. Reserve a portion of the "Playa" area available to "invited artists". The kind of creators who are known for their amazing works, and I can name a bunch of them. Stuff that makes you go "wow". Burning Life deserves more of that.

right now you cannot even teleport into any Burning Life sim. At least I cannot, no matter what I try.

You have a big point there. It has a feeling of "sandbox." Mari That is exactly what it felt like when I went to have a look. Just a sandbox. Is it suppose to be like that? |

Last year's event wasn't like a sandbox at all and was filled with amazing builds.

I saw about seven builds that were quite good. On the whole it did remind me of sandboxes, but worthwhile to find those seven.

So far I've rarely seen such a gathering of crappy buildings. Nothing original. Several piles of sculpties pretending to be mountains but looking more like garbage dumps. Waste of prims and time.
