Ok, so I live on a sim called Kiwa Northwest. I baught this land from Crystal Islands Community. Tonight, when I logged on, I fell into a group chat for the community. Basically what happened is a guy named Doeko Cassidy, I guess the main owner of the estates, sold the land to a guy named Kavai Onizuka. Nobody was notified this was going to happen so that we could NOT pay anymore tier for those of us that have. I paid $1,080L to purchase ownership of this land, and $513/week. I have 6 days left on my tier, and my land was sold, without me being notified or getting my money back for the purchase, this happened to everybody on the numerous sims they have here. Evidently the guy who sold everything, Doeko, isn't going to pay anybody back their purchase prices, some who purchased just today or yesterday. If you sell the land for that much $L, then turn around and sell it again to a diff person, not refunding the money, wouldn't that be considered fraud/scam and against TOS???? I don't see how that would be within the rules of SL at all, it shouldn't be. I'm just wondering if anybody knows for sure what can/will be done about this. I've reported it to LL using the Abuse Report form, just wondering tho if anybody knows how this will be handled. As you can imagine, there are a lot of extremely mad people over here.

Unfortunately, there is npt much that can be done. This is one of the pitfalls of private estate land. You are never really buying it, you are renting or leasing it at best with the option to sell your lease rights, that's it. The person you "bought" the land from is the only true owner and he can sell it on a whim, without telling his tenants. LL will not get involved in this most likely, they classify this as a resident to resident dispute.

Wow. LL really should change that, nobody on here should be allowed to do this ESPECIALLY when it involves, in most cases, real money.

ANother question. The new owner is refunding everyone's tier. Mine is $513 a week, a week is 7 days. I only have used 2 of those days, 5 days remaining. But i only got $250 back, shouldn't it be like $366? $513 divided by 7 = 73.285714 a day times 5 (the days i have left) =366.42857 (rounded of course), so the $366 shouldn't that be what I got back or is it figured a different way?

He is under no obligation to give you anything back. You are fortunate to be getting something. A lot of people don't in these situations. _____________________

ANother question. The new owner is refunding everyone's tier. That is very unusual. People get cheated out of rent all the time this way. (Without a penny in refund. That is up to the new owner which usually tells people they are SOL.) "Selling" land when it is actually leasing or renting is false advertising and I wish someone would make a JIRA about that. People need to know that when they 'buy' land and it has a covenant, they have not bought a thing, and it can be taken from them any time the landlord sells or vanishes. |

As you can imagine, there are a lot of extremely mad people over here. Probably they will refer you to https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=4382 : I have an agreement with one or more Residents regarding real estate, group management, performance of services, division of revenue, etc., but they aren't keeping to the agreement. Linden Lab cannot verify, enforce, certify, examine, uphold, or adjudicate any oath, contract, deal, bargain, or agreement made by the Residents of Second Life. Please contact the Resident with whom you have a dispute, and request that they make good on the deal. While you may have a valid agreement with another person, Linden Lab is not a party to and cannot resolve your dispute. |

But no, LL shouldn't change that. There is plenty of information out there, in the Wiki, in these forums, in groups, in classes, and knowledge you can get out of people's heads by the simple expedient of asking them. Specifically, in this case, information about how land in SL works. It's not a simple topic, there are lots of different land products out there, and many different ways to buy or rent them. But at some point, people need to take responsibility for informing themselves before committing money to something. Your previous estate owner has met the tenants halfway, IMO. He did not have to give ANYONE back ANYTHING. Have you contacted the new owner to find out if he intends to continue renting parcels as before, or if he has other plans for the land that would require you to move? _____________________
