Banned Resident vs Banlines

Can anyone help me with the following question:

When a resident is banned access to one's land...is it basically the same as when someone uses banlines against the public? I'm trying to find some specific information on this, the limitations, if any, of a Banned Resident versus banning everyone.

If anyone can point me in the direction of where to find the distinctions, if any, between the two types of bans, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Regular non-public access (aka banlines as usually complained about) are 50m tall from the ground level. So is the pay to access banline. Explicit resident bans (aka blacklist ban), like when a name gets added to the parcel no access list, is 768m tall from ground level. Members of a group that hold group land may be able to bypass the public no-access banline and (IIRC) the pay for access banline on group land if they have the proper group permissions. Nothing really bypasses an explicit name ban, group or not.

thank you Dana...i've banned a resident from my land, yet he has now been on it twice since the ban...once at ground level and another in the sky...hence my question about limitations. i'm very frustrated as he is harrassing me at this point. i suppose i'll just have to file an AR the next time i see him on my land. he must be using something that allows him back on the land.

thanks again.

if you are on an estate you can have the estate owner ban them from the sim or sims connected..

There are, unfortunately, several ways for someone to effectively stand in a banned area, if they are determined enough to do so. Keep abuse reporting him, and try to get him banned from the sim, not just your parcel.

If you're on a private island and all adjoining sims ban him sim-wide, he should not be able to return, as that avatar. But he could still create a new alt in minutes and continue.

If you're on the mainland, there is no way to permenently ban him short of fiiling enough harrassment Abuse Reports against him for LL to perma-ban the avatar. On the mainland there are always, sadly, ways they can come back and flaunt their access.

(I won't detail the methods, as it would enable other harrassers who may be unaware of the means for doing this.)

Actually there is talk in jira and sldev about people being able to get around even Estate bans. No repro as of yet but I would say that something is broken somewhere and would weigh my opinion towards it being a server side problem:

thank you Ceka & Ceera...yes, i'm on mainland, although i own most of the sim. i'm trying a 3 strikes and you're out rule with him...i've warned him for the second time. the 3rd will result in an AR as will each subsequent breach.

he's so brazen that he stood right next to me yesterday after i had banned him...and he's muted...and was telling my friend to tell me that i should unmute him...now he's threatened me with a lawsuit if i file an AR. it's just getting out of control and it has to stop. i'm just not sure how other than the AR.

Okay.. at this point, file the AR. And get your friends to file ARs as well, when he's there while they are around.

Document, document, document! Whenever he's there, what ever he does.

But if he gets really annoying while you're waiting for LL to do something, set the land to damage and remove him the fun way. Then change it from banning to buy pass... If he's gonna get around the ban, make him pay for the honor of being shot back home!

Although.. you could just eject him.. or freeze him and have your friends dress him up in prim parts...

Yes.. I'm evil. I know this.

you may also want to check that you've set the ban on all parcels, if you have parcelled out your land, of course.

i wish him luck with that one. not only is it your land to ban or not, it's also your privilege and right to AR or not.

Yes indeed. Having a record of him saying that would be worth solid gold when sent to LL I'd bet. It may just be my experiences, but it seems LL doesn't take the old "in your face" type of harrassment all that lightly.

You need a non weapon looking object that does this; targets the avi, turns land damage on, puts out a horrific amount of damage and then turns damage back off. Just for cases like this. make it look like a spy watch or necklace or something non gun like

Unfortunately, if he is using the method I suspect he is using to evade the banishment and still enter the parcel, then none of the parcel's powers will affect him. This could work very well, however, if he is just returning in similarly named (or differently named) alts.

The next time he appears, try freezing him, and then after you have determined if that worked or not, try "ban and eject". Include in your Abuse Report if either of these fail, as it is an indication that he is *deliberately* using unusual tactics to force re-entry to your parcel. That would give the Lindens added incentive to perma-ban the jerk.

Mysti-tool's "Kill" function? (Or was that a function in my Psyche's Personal Defense HUD?)

I had someone come in today that was harrassing people and I never got an eject or freeze pie option for just that person. Had it for everyone else. Any idea why?

aka banlines as usually complained about

Usually because someone uses the plot for a sky platform about 100 meters up. Or it is in a bad area (like against a road or over water) which has people always hitting it. Or even both.

If I am guessing what you are thinking correctly that is also what I told people to do when an event I was running was griefed last year. :)
