I am Group Owner in my land owning group. I built a platform (1 object, 2 prims) that I textured to use as a lawn outside my skybox. All was well. I logged in just now and (the object's group was set to my land group) turned on "share with group" on the General Edit tab. This activated the Deed button, so I went ahead and deeded the platform to the Group. Now it is saying that "You cannot modify this object". What the heck am I doing wrong? I don't have "Select only my objects" checked, I'm wearing my Group tag and have my Owner role active. I'm also listed as the creator of the object, and the Group is listed as the owner of the object.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what I'm missing? My GF and I are group Owners and we want to be able to both modify group assets, obviously. Thanks, Jackie

You almost never want to *deed* stuff to group. It's really only appropriate to a very few scripted functions (parcel media control, banlist security, per-avatar primcounting... that's about it).
What happens when you deed is that the group becomes the next owner, and next owner permissions are applied to the object. For ever. Even if you take it back from the group (sell it to yourself), that will just be yet another "next" owner, so the permissions are gone for good.
Sharing with group may not be quite right, either, because then anybody in the group (regardless of role) can Take the object.
I'd guess that just allowing the other person to modify your objects (a setting in the Friends list) is closer to what's really wanted here.

So I'm screwed then and my lovely little lawn platform is there forever? Oh, dear. I just wanted to see what would happen and Deeding seemed like such a good idea at the time Thanks, Qie. Jackie.

What would happen if I, as group Owner, Returned the item? Would that work and would it revert to Me (the previous owner) and show up in my L&F like any other returned object? Would it "undeed" the object if I did that? Jackie

Oh, yeah, you'll certainly get it back to your Lost & Found, but you wouldn't get the permissions back on it because those "next owner permissions" already applied.

Any other thoughts on how to make this thing go away so I can recreate it from scratch? It's really a very simple object, just a couple of 10x10m prims linked together with a grass texture. Jackie.
