Lately, a few times, something I've built, or even that others built, will have parts become phantom for no reason. Then when I go to edit, the phantom box is not checked. The only way to fix it is to create a copy of the prim and replace it. It has happened to me twice, and to a friend of mine once, that I know of. Last night, during an event at my club, one of my floor pieces became phantom and ppl were falling thru, and this kinda sucks because my club is over the water. And like I said, the phantom box was not checked, but ppl were falling thru it as if it were.

I've seen this once before. One day, I had _one_ prim in a link set start behaving like it was phantom. Weird.

An unlink/relink fixed it..

Sounds like a ghost prim to me. I know there have been more problems with the asset servers recently. It is making my wary about making large purchases among other things.

I've had this happen a few times recently. Just like you the phantom box was not checked. The only option I had was to create a new one as well.

I guess it's nice to hear it's not just me but it is a royal pain in the ass.

/me raises hand

Same here. And this I noticed with buig buildings, maybe it happens with small ones, but as we usually don't step on them we don't notice. Very annoying.

This problem has been around litterally for years. Sometimes unlink and relinking fixes it. More often though the prim itself has become "bugged" and just flat has to be replaced.

Had it. Bug Reported it. Copied it to make a correct prim. Continued on while LL will ignore said Bug Report.

*grins* No. I'm not cynical. Just this is a bit too random with no way to really reproduce it. Hard to fix these types of bugs.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

This happened to a friend of mine last night.
As far as edit was concerned, the prim was not phantom.

What didn't work:
- unlinking
- toggling phantom

What "worked"
- delete and recreate

We didn't try Copy.
Next time.

Darkness is right - this has been around forever. My experience has been to always replace a prim that has gone wonky just to be safe.

Crazy as it sounds, about a month ago, every single prim on my entire island went phantom. The Linden that came out had NEVER seen anything like it. It was odd because every single prim and prim owner was affected.

Please tell me they found some solution other than you having to replace every prim...

Yeah, we actually were able to fix it with only a restart of the island, but it was very weird.

This used to happen to me a lot on a particular build I did - unfortunately it was a skybox, so I did quite a lot of impromptu skydiving, working on that one!

And it didn't just happen once - one particular prim kept going phantom over and over again, even though I completely replaced it with a new block everytime... strange..

In a lot of cases there is a simpler way to fix this than unlinking, copying, and replacing the faulty prim. What I have found that works almost everytime, is to select just the bad prim, then change the hollow setting to some value, then back to zero. It seems that the prims become 'hollow', not actually phantom. They look solid visually, but if you isolate one and play with it, you will find it acts as though the hollow setting has gone to 95.

I have the same problem with some of the items I've purchased from others. It drives me crazy. The only thing I can do is just no longer use the item which kind of sucks.

in my case it was on the outside of a cylinder, no way it could have been because it was hollow. but in saying that it might also have something to do with cut path, so next time it happens i'll be experimenting, thanks Innes

I've had it a couple of times, and in both cases it was only a part of the prim that became phantom - not the whole prim.

Every object in the sim that I'm in right now used to go phantom occasionally - it wasn't a rare occurence. But it hasn't happened for a few months. Maybe I shouldn't have said that :(

As a builder i see this all the time, Hollow the prim, then restore it, it will come back Solid and generally will not phantom again.

Gah, that problem! Yes, I've had the occasional and odd occurrence of phantom primness. I wish there was a pattern to it, because then they could fix it.

It was one of my 10x10's for a part of the floor. I also recall one really entertaining time it happened in the Cathedral back when it was in Limbo (Isle of Wyrms). The prims in the floors all went phantom, so the guardians and such just put up a 'fall floor' sign or some sort and we all rezzed things to sit on! Restart fixed it, though.
