For those who might be interested, tomorrow night at 11 p.m. the German TV station vox will air a BBC documentary that seems to be mainly focused on SL called "Virtual Love" - how virtual life suckers one in, how "suitable" the SL avatar may be as a RL companion, that sort of stuff. Will watch it but won't expect too much of a positive outcome...

On a brighter note, HBO will be airing "Molotov Alva and His Search for the Creator: A Second Life Odyssey" in their shorts segments starting middle of May I believe.

Wasn't this the same hatchet job that was on a few month's ago? If I remember correctly, someone here was interviwed and their story was rejected because it was too positive.

Banning Second Life: Congressman Aims to Restrict Access to the Virtual World

Second Life Intro

Illinois Representative Mark Kirk has a bone to pick with Second Life and other social networking sites over what he feels is a lack of protections for minors who use them. He called upon the Federal Trade Commission yesterday to "investigate the growing vulnerability of children to predators on Second Life."

The congressman fired off a press release stating he'd sent a letter to the FTC's chairman asking for a "consumer alert" to be issued about the dangers of Second Life. Kirk claimed there are no age verification procedures built into Second Life registration despite the popular social networking service's claims of preventing children from accessing it.

...

Kirk added, "Sites like Second Life offer no protections to keep kids from virtual 'rape rooms,' brothels and drug stores. If sites like Second Life won't protect kids from obviously inappropriate content, the Congress will."

I don't see any mention of the German TV show in that thread.

If the "Mark Kirk" avatar is an alt, which avatar would be the main?

If it's the one they aired earlier in the year it's a brilliant plug for Rivers Run Red but little else in the way of actual substance, seemed a bit fake to me.

It was pretty boring after all. One couple that got married happily after meeting in SL, one woman who endangered her RL marriage for the SL guy and such stuff. Nothing remotely scandalous, just some nicely done machinima and interviews in the typical BBC documentary style...

I already watched that one on the BBC a while ago and I am slightly fed up with all the documentaries focusing on sex and SL love....
