What's going on with snapshots???

It used to squish to fit 512x512 when you took a snap... now I see a black bounding box that fixes a square in the frame which means you don't get to take a picture of the whole frame... I mean huh???

If for example you take a pic and want to put it in your profile it now stretches it to fit the pic area and thus makes you look fat, er *coughs* wider than you really are!

Is there a way of solving this?

*bump*

Sorry this got lost and it's really bugging me 'cos since windlight came in I've found a new hobby - taking snapshots in SL - no problem with sending to slpics or to disk it's just the ones that upload are pants and it's nice to give them to ppl you meet

You generally don't want it to squish since that'll distort the image. If you're on a 16:9 monitor and tried to squish that onto a 1:1 snapshot as-is everything would look very horizontally squished/vertically stretched.

You can just zoom out some more to get everything you want to see in the snapshot onto a 1:1 box.

Make your SL window square before you take the pic. Then you'll generally get what you framed in the window.

Or save the snapshot to disk, and crop / scale / reformat as needed. This is what I always do if I am going to use a pic for a profile picture or something else where I want it to ook good, and have the right aspect ratio.

Amy, I had the same problems and after a lot of reading found the answers. Rather than attempt to explain here, feel free to IM me if I am in world.
You want to go to the Textures forum and search there. There are some very good explanations on what is happening and how to work around what SL does to snapshots.

Thanks - not sure if I explained myself very well - in the preview meny when you take a snapshot it shows the dimension of your screen ie. 16:9 or whatever - but the snapshot area is square and outlined with a black keyline - the areas to the left and right of the square frame are greyed out and do not appear in the texture when you take the snap.

A square photo probably wouldn't bother ppl who are used to taking pictures on 120 roll film (Hasselblads and Rolleiflexes etc) but if you like a nice rectangular frame to work with then you don't get it anymore.

The resizing in profile picks is actually just a sympton of a larger problem

/me heads off to textures forum...
