My clothes don't fit and I can't edit it

hi! I bought some clothes that have short skirts and when I wear them- they either don't fit right or are askew on my avi. I have tried editing them and I am having trouble. now- weird question- my avi' has a booty on her- and I was wondeing if some skirts don't make room for a bigger booty than average. Or is this just stupid sounding lol. I paid L $ for some of these and want to get my money's worth- what can I do? Is there an editing trick I don't know about- I can move the skirt up down and around- but it never fits right. also my AO has my avi with her leg out sometimes- shouldn't the skirt move with the leg instead of having the leg stick our of the skirt without the skirt covering it up. Thank you guys!!!!!

I ran into this problem with my alt. The weird thing is, my booty is bigger than my alts and I don't have a problem with skirts and such. Perhaps different in style, who knows. What I did was moved the skirts down in edit, if you can't do that then you might have to take the booty down until the skirt fits. What I find is even doing that, the skirt still looks big around the waist or hips, but at least your butt won't be sticking out anymore

And yes this can be a problem.

You will need to stand on a posing stand and reposition the skirt and possible resize it (if it is mod)

Prim skirts wont move with your leg at all they are attached to a central body point.

the first time this happened to me i thought the skirt was "broken" somehow

after many tries i threw it away

however
the creator did send me a larger size skirt
so its worth asking if that is available

First, is the skirt marked modifiable? If so, have you tried the 'Stretch' radio button in the Edit window? Also, there's a check box for editing linked prims which will let you adjust one piece of the skirt at a time. You might want to experiment on a freebie or cheapie skirt before you work on the ones you paid for, just to get the hang of it. If the skirt is copyable, make a back up in case you hate the results.

And, no, prim skirts do not move with your av, so some animations/poses will make your leg stick out.

There are two kinds of skirts.

The first is the system skirt, one of the avatar clothing layers. These skirts almost always make your ass and hips look too big. The only adjustment you can make to the skirt itself is the length. A lot of us have an alternate, narrow-hipped shape that we wear with system skirts, which can help a lot.

The second type is a prim skirt...a skirt made of prims, usually flexible ones. These can be edited with the object edit tools (not the Appearance menu!). You can even tweak individual prims in the skirt if you check "Edit Linked Parts".

The problem with prim skirts is that they don't react to the movement of your legs. When you walk, your leg pushes through the skirt fabric. When you sit, the skirt hangs straight down, exposing your legs.

The first problem is easily dealt with. Most prim skirts come with a pair of "glitch pants", worn on the underpants or pants layer. These texture your legs with the skirt texture, which minimizes the appearance of your legs pushing through the skirt prims.

The second problem requires a "skirt sitter" script in the skirt itself. These haven't been completely perfected yet, but with the right skirt, they can greatly reduce the "sitting problem" A few vendors offer skirts with this script in them. You can also find it separately, and drop it in your skirts yourself. There are a couple of threads about this...do a search.

Another option is to adjust the skirt the best to fit as well as possible and then modify your shape a little so that your booty accomodates the skirt and then rename the new shape something like "skirt shape." Make a backup of your original shape first.

I don't really like to do this because I like my shape as it is, but there are some skirts I really like and they will just never fit right over my bum.

My solution is to rarely ever wear skirts in Second Life.

I like my butt the way it is, but I also like some of the skirts that don't deal with it very well. So, if I have a no-mod skirt I put a copy of my shape, adjusted for fit, in the folder that contains the skirt and put it on like a piece of clothing when needed.

And whats wrong with a females butt sticking out? Wish there were more of this in sl.

We take offense to buttocks or the side of our hips sticking THROUGH the prim, Ricardo. It adds nothing to the look and only makes the skirt seem poorly designed. Sticking OUT, as in size, isn't at issue here.
